May 15th-May 21st
May 15th, 2026: Lazaro Armenteros is headed to AAA for a rehab assignment, and I activated SP Steve Paustian from the DL. I optioned Marc Bjork to AAA to make room.
We opened the series hosting the Astros in a packed Marlins stadium with Jordan Montgomery (5-1, 2.16 ERA, 0.82 WHIP) taking on Marcos Molina (2-4, 6.08 ERA, 1.57 WHIP). We got three in the second and won the opener 5-2.
Thomas Dillard left with an injury... He had an RBI triple in his only at bat.
Monty went 5.2 with 4 hits, 2 runs, 4 walks, and 5 strikeouts. Danny Niewald and Ernesto Estrella earned holds before Alpha Quivers recorded the save.
Deshawn Hardamon was 1-for-3 with a walk and two run homer. Dewitt MacGregor was 1-for-3 with 2 runs scored and a double. Vlad Jr. was 2-for-4. Cole Roederer was 1-for-4 with a run scored.
May 16th, 2026: Steve Paustian (2-1, 2.83 ERA, 1.29 WHIP) made his return to the rotation against Luke Weaver (1-2, 4.05 ERA, 1.29 WHIP). It wasn't pretty, and we dropped the middle game 8-1.
Cole Roederer lost with an injury... Yay... He was 1-for-3 with a double, walk, and RBI before leaving.
Paustian struggled, 3 innings with 6 hits, 5 runs, 3 walks, and 3 strikeouts. Ben Popkin allowed 2 unearned runs with a hit, walk, and strikeout in 2 innings. Brennan Malone went 2 innings with 2 hits, a run, and 2 strikeouts. Hyo-jin Yaung struck out the side, but walked 2, in the 9th.
Deshawn Hardamon was 2-for-4 with a double and triple. Isaac Nunez was 1-for-4 with a double and run scored. Juan Ramirez was 1-for-3 with a run scored.
May 17th, 2026: Roederer is off to the DL with a strained hip flexor, and he'll miss 2 weeks. I recalled Lazaro Armenteros from his rehab assignment.
The Nationals lost CL Colten Panaranto for the year with a torn rotator cuff. He was 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA and 12 saves.
The Angels will be without SP Chris Willaman for the year with a torn ulnar collatreal ligament. He was 2-3 with a 8.04 ERA with 18 strikeouts in 28 innings.
We looked to win the series with Mike Soroka (1-4, 6.27 ERA, 1.85 WHIP) taking on Yeremi Ceballos (3-1, 1.91 ERA, 1.09 WHIP). They got 6 in the 8th and we dropped the finale 8-3...
Soroka went 7, allowing 5 hits, 2 runs (1 earned), and he struck out 7. Yaung didn't get an out, walked 2, allowed a hit, and three runs scored. Jorge Moya went 0.2 innings with 3 hits, 3 runs, a walk, and a strikeout. LF Matt Hogan made his pitching debut, tossing 1.1 innings with a hit and 2 strikeouts. He is a partial two-way player.
Lewis Brinson was 2-for-4 with a solo homer. Lazaro Armenteros was 1-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI's. Isaac Nunez was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Juan Ramirez was 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Supposedly Dermott MacGregor called out Desahawn Hardamon for his lack of effort. I'm hoping this doesn't become a problem...
We'll head to LA for four with the Dodgers. They'd send Robinson Ortiz (1-2, 6.30 ERA), Rafael Montero (0-0, 2.30 ERA), Mike Clevinger (3-1, 3.95 ERA), and former Marlin Walker Buehler (3-3, 3.64 ERA).
May 18th, 2026: We dropped to 6th in the Power Rankings. At 24-16, we are tied for the top Wild Card.
We opened the series with Jake Florence (2-2, 3.32 ERA, 1.75 WHIP) taking on Robinson Ortiz (1-2, 6.30 ERA, 1.67 WHIP). Florence was great, and we won the opener 6-1.
Florence went 7.1 innings with 4 hits, 2 walks, and 6 strikeouts. Ben Popkin went 1.2 innings with 3 hits, a run, walk, and 2 strikeouts.
Juan Ramirez went 1-for-3 with a three run homer, walk, and 2 runs scored. Dewitt MacGregor was 2-for-3 with a hit by pitch and run scored. Florence was 1-for-4 with a run scored, 2 RBI's, and a double. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was 1-for-4 with a double and hit by pitch. Lewis Brinson was 1-for-3 with a walk, double, and run scored.
So with the Hardamon situation, I have three options. Suspend him for 5 games, do nothing, or release him. Releasing is not even an option, he's a 3.5/4.5 stud second basemen who's almost 24. I really don't want to suspend him, but he did shove MacGregor to the ground. I had to do the suspension and hope for the best.
May 19th, 2026: Game two saw Devon Peterson (3-1, 3.57 ERA, 1.28 WHIP) take on Rafael Montero (0-0, 2.30 ERA, 1.02 WHIP) who's making his first start after 17 relief appearences. Both teams scored a run in the 3rd, but there was no more scoring in regulation. In the 10th, MacGregor hit a solo homer, but in the bottom hald, Zion Aldaba hit a walk-off two run homer off Quivers.
Peterson was great, 7 innings with 3 hits, a run, 3 walks, and 6 strike outs. Quivers got the loss, 1.2 innings with a hit, 2 runs, a walk, and 2 strike outs.
MacGregor was 2-for-4 with a solo homer and 2 runs scored. Seth Beer was 1-for-3 with a walk.
May 20th, 2026: Dillard has a back strain, and will head to the DL for the minimum. I needed to place him on the DL since MacGregor was tired. I called up Jake Taylor.
Game three of four saw Jordan Montgomery (6-1, 2.28 ERA, 0.89 WHIP) take on "former Marlin" Mike Clevinger (3-1, 3.95 ERA, 1.32 WHIP). Both teams scored 3 in the fourth and 1 in the 8th, but they got the first run in the 1st.
Monty struggled, 3.1 innings with 7 hits, 4 runs, a walk, and 2 strike outs. Yaung got the loss, an inning with a hit, run, and 2 strike outs.
Vlad Jr. was 1-for-3 with a walk, 2 RBI's, a sac-fly and a steal. Lazaro Armenteros was 1-for-2 with a walk, run, and steal. Isaac Nunez was 1-for-4 with a steal and walk. Matt Hogan was 1-for-3 with 2 walks.
Rockies 3B Sahid Valenzuela was 5-for-6 in an 8-6 loss to the Reds.
May 21st, 2026: We needed the win to split the series, and Steve Paustian (2-2, 3.98 ERA, 1.45 WHIP) faced his former teammate Walker Buehler (3-3, 3.64 ERA, 0.96 WHIP). Of course, we couldn't, and dropped the finale 3-1.
Paustian allowed 3 in 5 off 6 hits, a walk, and he struck out 7. Jorge Moya struck out the side in the 9th.
Vladdy was 2-for-3 with a walk, double, and solo homer. Matt Hogan was 1-for-4 with a double. Jordy Barley was 1-for-3.
We got tomorrow off, and the All-Star fan vote will begin. Although, we are now the 2nd Wild Card and have just a 1 game lead over the Padres. We are also 4.5 games out of first.
