Free Agency Pt. 1
November 26th, 2025: Here is who OSA considers the top Free Agents:
RHP A.J. Puckett
RF Bryce Harper
RHP Tyler Mahle
RHP Michael Fullmer
RHP Thyago Vieira
1B Dominic Smith
SS Francisco Lindor
3B Nick Senzel
3B Rafael Devers
CL Edwin Diaz
Again, I'm keeping track of compensation free agents to make sure everyone gets their pick.
The Brewers traded LF Andre Tarver to the Dodgers for SS Amin Valdez. I like this deal for the Dodgers.
I'm like $40,000,000 in the red, so I don't have a clue what I'm going to do, but I definitely have to either shed salary, or kill my owner to get a generous one, and I haven't found a way to do that in OOTP, yet...
November 30th, 2025: I submitted my Hall of Fame ballot today:
3B Adrian Beltre
1B Jason Giambi
SP Felix Hernandez
LF Matt Holliday
C Joe Mauer
CL Joe Nathan
1B Albert Pujols
CL Francisco Rodriguez
SS Jimmy Rollins
SP CC Sabathia
I left Justin Verlander off the ballot, not because I don't think he deserves it, but becausue he could get in without my vote, where some of the guys need the vote more.
My guess is Pujols, Mauer, JV, K-Rod, CC, and Beltre have a chance to get inducted.
December 2nd, 2025: The Padres traded RHP Jonathan Butler and LF Greg Jones to the Royals for 1B Steve Sparks. The Royals really finessed the Padres, considering Sparks is the worst of the three players.
December 4th, 2025: I had to start cost cutting, sending SP Walker Buehler and 1B Nate Bagwell to the Dodgers for SP Jose Quintana with 50% of his salary retained. It was tough dealing Buehler, but that's the problem with being a small market team...
Quintana is a stud, a 3.5*, but I might try flipping him. "Q" is 36, and a career 148-117 with a 3.40 ERA and 1.20 WHIP with a 25 games started vesting optoin for next year. And now I'm just $25 million in the red...
December 5th, 2025: The Mariners traded C Ethan Hedrick to the Padres for RHP Pedro Fernandez and LHP Eric Moore. I like this deal for both teams, but the Padres got the better side.
December 6th, 2025: The Tigers sent 3B Isaac Paredes to the Royals for RHP Nick Neidert and RHP Gilberto Ramos. It's an even deal.
December 8th, 2025: More cost cutting, and I traded CF Mickey Moniak and 2B Jeison Guzman to the Reds for RHP's Ignacio Hinojos and Leonel Olvera. Both will be headed to the active roster, as I have to protect Olvera from the Rule-5 Draft.
Hinojos, 23, is the headliner, a 3/4.5 as a RP and 2/3.5 as a SP. The former 17th Rounder was released on draft day, and has bouned around since, but has become an elite talen. He's got some of the best stuff in the game, with a 94 fastball, 95 curve, and 97 change and he can reach triple digits. He's a durable young arm, and has a spot reserved in the pen or rotation.
Olvera, 22, is rated a 1.5/3.5 as a SP, and he's got the ability to go deep into games. He's recovering from a torn elbow ligament, but he's got four plus pitches and can also hit triple digits. He gets great movement on his pitches and spots them well. He's got a big of developing to do, but he could maintain a rotation spot for years to come.
Still $16 million in the red...
December 9th, 2025: The Royals made a huge splash, signing Francisco Lindor to a 5-year, $150,0600,000 contract. He's a career .310/.378/.520 hitter with 291 homers, 1,053 RBI's, and has been worth 74.6 wins above replacement at just 32 years of age. That's just 5.2 below the "best shortstop ever" Derek Jeter...
December 10th, 2025: I protected fromer 1st Rounder and RP/CF Ken Adeniran from the Rule-5 draft and purchased his contract. He's now looking more like a reliever, rated with 3* potential and 98 potential stuff. I also protected LF/SP Matt Hogan, who's more of an outfielder and rated a 1.5/2.5 with elite speed and defense.
December 11th, 2025: The Angels signed CL Craig Kimbrel to a 3-year, $49.4 million contract. The 37-year-old vet has 519 career saves.
December 13th, 2025: Today the winter meeitngs start! The Indains traded 2B Tyler Freeman and cash considerations to the Brewers for 1B Braden Shewmake. Just because of the Cash, I like this deal for the Brewers.
I made a deal of my own, shipping out Quintana to the Royals for RF Jarred Kelenic, and I'm now just under $4 million under.
Kelenic, the former 18th Overall Pick, is a great leader and is making the minimum. He's rated a 3.5 as a RF and 1.5 as a SP, and will continue to be a two way guy. He's got a cannon in right, great speed, and a great bat. He's hit .297/.385/.501 in 1,045 at bats with the Royals in 281 games.
December 14th, 2025: Today was a busy day!
First, the Red Sox resigned Bryce Harper to a 5-year, $160,000,000 deal and then signed former Marlin Dinelson Lamet to a 4-year, $12.5 million per year contract. With the Lamet signing, I'll net a compensation pick, and the Red Sox forefit the pick they got for Kimbrel.
The Mets acquired RHP Robert Stephenson, SS Luis Zargosa, and SS Phil Reed from the Reds for SS Andres Gimenez. Why did the Mets have to make a good deal...
The A's got former Marlin LF Kyle Lewis from the Cubs for LHP Jaden Jiggets and 3B Jorge Mendoza. It's an even enough deal.
The Mariners traded RHP Sang-kuk Joung to the Athletics for CF Jameson Hannah and cash considerations. It's a fair deal, but again, the cash gives the M's the edge.
I made a deal of my own, sending Dylan Cease to the team that drafted him, the Cubs, for 1B Garrett Frechette. So close to being back in the green!
Frechette, 24, is a former 5th Rounder who made his debut last year, hitting .345/.424/.517 in 29 at bats with 4 RBI's. He's got a big bat, and is rated a 3/3.5 with the ability to play the corner outfield spots as well as first. He's also got decent speed, and 2 more options.
December 16th, 2025: The Winter Meeetings end today, so of course, moves were made after a quiet day yesterday.
The Cardinals signed Nick Goody to a 3-year, $11.6 million per year deal. He has 110 career saves and a 4.20 ERA and 1.20 WHIP in 625.2 innings with the Yankees, Indians, Royals, Red Sox, and Mets.
The Rangers traded RHP Carlos Lomeli and RHP Jimmy Chapman to the Mariners for 1B Franklin Reyes. I really like this deal for the Mariners.
The Red Sox acquired CF Jhon Solarte and SS Mathis Friedman from the Blue Jays for RHP Logan Shore. It's a nice deal for the Sox.
I traded RHP Slade Cecconi and LHP Dylan Wisner to the Yankees for RHP's Brennan Malone and Jeremy Reller, as well as LHP Jeff Buehler to finally get out of the red.
Malone, 25, is the headliner. The former 39th overall pick is rated a 3/4.5 as a RP and 0.5/3.5 as a SP. He's got plus stuff, including a 90 rated fastball that is consistentl yin the 95-97 range to go wtih a plus curve and solid change up. He's got plus movement and control as well, and has the tools to be a #1 or #2.
Reller, 23, was selected 20th Overall in 2024, and is rated a 1/2.5. He's got elite stuff, with a top notch fastball and change up, and can hit triple digits with a 10-15 MPH drop in his change. He's got to work on his control, but he can make a big league pen.
Buehler, 22, was selected in the 3rd round of this year's draft, and is rated a 3.5 potential. The lefty had a plus-plus fastball and splitter, and can also touch triple digits. He's got good stamina out of the pen, and has solid movement and control. He's raw, but has a ton of upside.
Now that the money is in order, I can focus on the only upgrade I really need, a 5th starter.
December 18th, 2025: I decided to purchase the contract of 3B Roberto Pena from AAA. The former Arizona 4th Rounder is rated a 2.5/3 and is a pretty good hitter and defender.
December 20th, 2025: I made myself a splash, sending almost a full infield: SS Luis Padilla, 2B Tristan Hanoian, and 1B C.J. Vick to the Rangers for SP Devon Peterson.
Peterson, 27, is rated a 3.5/4 with plus stuff and control. All four of his pitches (cutter, slider, change, forkball) are plus offerings and he gets good movement on his pitches. He reaches triple digits occasionally, keeps the ball on the ground, and goes deep into games. The former 15th Overall pick is a career 19-25 with a 5.35 ERA, 1.53 WHIP, and 344 strikeouts in 375.1 innings, but he's much better then the numbers suggest.
I also traded Isaiah Musa to the Red Sox for CF Bob Poulson. This years 30th overall pick, he's rated a 0.5/3 wtih top speed, elite contact ability, and a great ability to man centerfield. He looks a lot better then a 3* based purely off his tools, and I have high hopes for the lefty.
December 21st, 2025: Here is a big, big deal: The Reds signed 3B Rafael Devers to a 8-year, $408,000,000 contract. He has an opt out after year four, but will make $51 million in each season of the deal. After spending one year in Seattle, he hit the open market again with his 2nd best season of his career. The 29-year-old is a career .311/.370/.572 hitter with 324 homers and 956 RBI's in 5,854 at bats.
December 23rd, 2025: Another big third basemen went off the market, as the Angels signed 3B Nick Senzel. He signed for 6-years, $26.6 million per year, with an opt out after year four. The longtime Red is a career .311/.379/.502 hitter with 146 homres and 583 RBI's and lead the NL with a .326 batting average this year.
December 24th, 2025: Today is the Rule-5 Draft, but first a pair of trades:
The Cardinals traded RHP Tylor Megill and RHP Victor Mederos to the Brewers for LF Corbin Carroll. Absolute steal for the Brewers.
The Astros acquired C Danny Jansen and LHP Juan Ramos from the Pirates for RHP Zach Gatewood, LHP A.J. Rister, and CF Dylan Crews. It's an even enough deal.
To the Rule-5 draft, I lost Harrison Bader, a 31-year-old, to th Cardinals with the first pick. I DFA'd Kenyon Yovan to select 20-year-old C Dermott MacGregor. It's a bit of a stretch pick, but he is developing his glove and has 4.5* potential. He's got a solid bat, but a lot of work to keep developing. Never playing above Class A, he's got a long way to go, but he's worth the gamble.
December 27th, 2025: The Red Sox claimed Kenyon Yovan off waivers.
December 28th, 2025: Michael Fulmer eventually decided his best option was to stay in Detroit, and he signed a 5-year, $114 million contract with a 180 innings pitched vesting option for 2030. From 2016-2025, he was 86-107 with a 4.63 ERA and 1.35 WHIP with the Tigers. He was aqful from 2019-2022, which really inflates his ERA and WHIP.
The Mets added 2 years to CL Jamie Callahan's contract. They'll pay him $16.8 million each year starting in 2027. He's recored 224 saves with a 2.85 ERA and 1.17 WHIP in 550 appearences out of the pen.
The Mets then traded RHP Luis Santillan and LHP Steve Penton to the Athletics for RHP Sam Runion and LHP Doug Parsons. I like this deal for the Mets.
Lastly, the Rockies sent C Luca Tresh and RF Justin Quintana to the Nationals for LHP Jay Groome. I like this deal for the Rox, although I'm not sure an extreme flyball pitcher will do well in Coors Field...
December 29th, 2025: The Angels expanded the pocket books to sign 1B Dominic Smith to a 7-year, $154,800,000 contract. He's a career .281/.349/.481 with 210 homers and 697 RBI's, mainly with the Mets.
December 30th, 2025: The Cubs signed CL Thyago Vieira to a 3-year, $66,600,000 contract. After spending a year in Toronto that wasn't as good as it could have been, he still got a good deal. He's got 140 saves with a 4.16 ERA and 1.55 WHIP in 511 innings.
The Cardinals traded SS Noah Campbell to the Mariners for RHP Joe LaBrie. I like this deal for the Cards.
The defending champion Rays traded RHP Dallas Woolfolk to the Padres for RF Gabriel Alejando Arias and RHP Kevin Poole. It's a fair deal.
December 31st, 2025: Hopefully, the Mets crippled themselves by signing SP Tyler Mahle to a 5-year, $171,000,000 contract. The injur prone Mahle has started 34 games two straight years, so it's likely not going to be the case this year. He was terrible in 2024, but bounced back in 2025 and lead the AL with 19 wins. He's a career 66-64 with a 4.34 ERA and 1.30 WHIP.
2026 starts tomorrow!
