GM’s notebook - Series 40 and 41
Magpies 4-1 Olympia
Magpies 6-7 Olympia
Magpies 6-5 Olympia
Sacramento 4-3 Magpies
Sacramento 1-3 Magpies
Sacramento 1-2 Magpies
- Wesley Weaver finally put it together in the road opener in Olympia, putting up a line of 8 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 0 BB. Gianni Hagenaars surprised everyone, including himself I imagine, with 2-4 including a HR and a double.
- The winning run came to an end the next day when (guess who?) Jesús Benítez gave up 2 runs in the 8th inning.
- Our sluggers Jeffrey White and Ángel Márquez both hit their 28th homers of the year in the 6-5 win that gave us the Olympia series.
- Jesús Zamora made his debut in the 4-3 defeat to the Stingrays, walking 3 batters but pitching 2 scoreless innings. However, he suffered shoulder inflammation and will be unable to play for a week. I don’t want to be a man down in the bullpen for that period, so he goes on the DL and David Gaines gets a sooner-than-expected chance of redemption.
- The 3-1 victory in the second game of the Sacramento series featured a superb outing from Israel Padilla: 7 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 7 K. Ken James earned his 32nd save.
- Joe Merrill has returned from the DL. Hagenaars will go back to the minor league roster, because Dave Plummer has done well (.870) in his brief time on the roster and I want to see him some more. Merrill slots in for Hagenaars at CF.
This week: 4-2
Record: 73-50, 1st place, 3 game lead over Lansing
