July 11th-July 17th

July 11th, 2025: The Indians traded SS Willi Castro to the Rays for RHP Yonny Chirinos. It's a pretty even trade.

We opened the series at AT&T Park with Steve Paustian (3-3, 3.95 ERA, 1.48 WHIP) facing his former team and teammate Wes Hicks (5-3, 4.08 ERA, 1.35 WHIP). Fun fact on Hicks: he appeared in 100 games last year for the Giants. 100! Isn't that crazy? Zhao-jun Ou-yang hit a walk off single and the Giants won 5-4.

Paustian pitched well, 6 innings with 7 hits, 2 runs, 4 walks, and 5 strikeouts. Greg Walston allowed 2 runs off 2 hits without getting an out. Moya got the loss, 0.2 innings with 2 walks, the run, hit, and a strike out.

Shoehi Ohtani was 2-for-3 with a walk, 2 runs, 2 RBI's, and a homer. Juan Ramirez was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Thomas Dillard was 1-for-3 with a walk and run scored. Paustian was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

July 12th, 2025: We looked to bounce back with Walker Buehler (5-2, 1.89 ERA, 0.93 WHIP) facing Stephen Gonsalves (3-3, 3.53 ERA, 1.26 WHIP). Buehler was brilliant, and we evened the series with a 3-1 win.

Buehler tossed 6 shutout innings, with 2 hits, 3 walks, and 8 strikeouts. Walston and Alpha Quivers tossed perfect frames to get holds, while Moya got the save. He allowed a run off 2 hits with a strikeout in the 9th.

Deshawn Hardamon was 2-for-5 with a solo homer, steal, and 2 runs. Shoehi Ohtani was 2-for-5 with an RBI double and stolen base. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was 2-for-5 with an RBI. Cole Roederer was 1-for-4 with a double. Juan Ramirez was 2-for-2 with 2 walks.

July 13th, 2025: The White Sox acquired SS Carlos Correa and RHP Brad Hall from the Padres for RHP's Dakota Donovan and Joe Symons. The Sox are taking on a ton of salary, but they get the better players, although Symons is a great relief pitching prospect.

With the possible Padres rebuild, I may be interested in acquiring CF Jeison Rosario from them.

We looked to win the series in a battle of #1 overall picks, Jake Florence (5-6, 4.32 ERA, 1.46 WHIP) and Tre'Mayne Blackburn (3-5, 4.22 ERA, 1.32 WHIP). The game was tied 2-2 heading into the 7th, but we got 3 in the top and 2 more in the 8th to finish the series with a 7-2 win.

Florence went 5.1 innings with 3 hits, 2 runs, 4 walks, and 3 strikeouts. Chasen Shreve tossed 1.2 innings with 2 hits and 4 strikeouts to improve to a perfect 7-0 on the season.

Vlad Jr. was 2-for-4 with a walk, homer, 2 runs, and 2 RBI's. Thomas Dillard was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, walks, and RBI's. Cole Roederer was 1-for-4 with a walk, steal, and 2 runs scored. Isaac Nunez was 2-for-4 with a walk and double. Seth Beer was 1-for-4 with a run scored, RBI, and walk. Scott Kingery was 1-for-4 with a run scored, walk, and double.

Cardinals LF and former Marlin Lewis Brinson was 5-for-5 in a 7-4 loss to the Angels. Astros 1B Yordan Alvarez increased his hit streak to 20 games. Former Marlins and current Dodger 2B Reizo Honda was 5-for-5 in an 8-5 win over the Rockies.

We got tomorrow off.

July 14th, 2025: Made another minor international signing, agreeing to a $470,000 bonus for SP Arturo Espinosa. The lefty may end up a reliever, but if he develops his change up he could start in the minors. He's not the most promising prospect, but he has a great makeup.

We remain on top of the Power Rankings with Atlanta right behind us. At 56-35, we're half a game and a half behind them.

Lazaro Armenteros is headed to Jupiter for a minor league rehab assignment. He'll join the team after the All-Star break.

We're off to Milwaukee for the final series of the first half. We'll see Bobby Nicholson (9-6, 3.97 ERA), Brent Honeywell (2-1, 3.22 ERA), and Jimmy Nelson (4-7, 4.86 ERA).

July 15th, 2025: The Rockies acquired RHP Jake Webb and RF Dave Ortega from the Pirates for LF Jahiem Tyes. I like this deal for the Rockies, but it's pretty even.

We opened the series in Milwaukee with Mike Soroka (7-6, 2.89 ERA, 1.16 WHIP) taking on Brent Honeywell (2-1, 3.22 ERA, 1.01 WHIP). It was a close one, but we edged the hosts 5-4.

Soroka went 6.1 innings, allowing 5 hits, 4 runs, and he struck out 8. Greg Walston went 1.2 innings with a strikeout to get the hold. Jorge Moya struck out the side in the 9th to earn the save.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was 1-for-5 with a two run homer. Thomas Dillard was 2-for-5 with a run scored, RBI, and steal. Juan Ramirez was 2-for-4 with a steal. Deshawn Hardamon was 2-for-3 with a run scored and RBI. Cole Roederer was 2-for-5 with a double and RBI.

Cole Winn tossed a 5-hit shutout as the Braves beat the White Sox 3-0.

July 16th, 2025: We looked to keep rolling with Shoehi Ohtani (3-0, 3.00 ERA, 1.29 WHIP) taking on Bobby Nicholson (9-6, 3.97 ERA, 1.22 WHIP). We got two in the 9th off Victor Arano to win 3-1.

Isaac Nunez left with a seperated shoulder and will miss 2-3 weeks.

Ohtani was amazing, but got a no decision. He gave up a hit in 7 innings with 2 walks and 8 strikeouts. He was also 1-for-4 with a double. Quivers blew the save, but got the win, getting a strikeout and allowing a solo homer in the 7th. Moya got the save, striking out 2 in the 9th.

Deshawn Hardmon was 2-for-5 with a solo homer and double. Juan Ramirez was 2-for-3 with 2 walks, an RBI, 2 doubles, and he was 1-for-2 on stolen base attempts. Cole Roederer was 2-for-3 with a run scored, double, and 2 walks.

Down in the DSL, RF Esteban Miramon was 5-for-5 in a win over the Tecas DSL team.

Alvarez's hit streak was ended at 22 in a 6-3 loss to the Angels.

July 17th, 2025: The All-Star rosters were announced, and both Thomas Dillard (3rd) and Shoehi Ohtani (3rd) won the fan vote for their position and will start. Walker Buehler (2nd), Mike Soroka (1st), and Rookie Marc Bjork (1st) were also named to the All-Star game.

In trade news, the A's acquired RHP Gerrit Cole and CF Luis Gurrero from the Giants for LF Anthony Churlin. It's an even enough trade.

I purchased the contract of 3B Caleb Balgaard from AAA to repalce Nunez on the active roster. The only other infielder on the 40, Devonte Brown, is also injured.

Balgaard, 27, is set to make his major league debut after hitting .279/.357/.462 with 11 homers and 48 RBI's in New Orleans this season. The former 2nd Round pick in 2020 was acquired for Matt Purke from the Mets in 2021.

We looked to finish the second half with a sweep, with Steve Paustian (3-3, 3.90 ERA, 1.50 WHIP) taking on Jimmy Nelson (4-7, 4.86 ERA, 1.39 WHIP) who tossed the second of two perfect games this year. We got 7 in the 9th to finish the sweep with an 11-8 win.

Paustian went 5 innings, allowing 6 hits, 4 runs, and 6 strikeouts. Chasen Shreve allowed a hit, walk, strikeout, and 2 runs in 1.1 innings. Bjork got the win, despite allowing 2 runs in the 8th with a hit, walk, and strikeout. Moya allowed a hit, walk, and got two strikeouts in the 9th before Alpha Quivers got a strikeout to end the game and record a save.

Balgaard substituted at SS to make his debut, going 1-for-3 with an RBI. Seth Beer was 2-for-4 with a two run homer and solo home run, as well as a walk. Juan Ramirez was 2-for-4 with a homer and 4 RBI's. Cole Roederer was 3-for-6 with 2 runs scored and a steal. Jr. was 1-for-4 with a double and hit by pitch. Austin Hedges had a pinch hit double in the 9th that drove in a run. He also later scored. Deshawn Hardamon was 2-for-4 with a double, 2 runs, an RBI, and walk.

Red Sox RF Bryce Harpter recored his 2,000th career hit. The 32-year-old is a career .289/.404/.543 hitter with Washington, Philadelphia, and Boston.

We end the first half 59-35, the second best record in all of baseball, but a game behind the 61-35 Braves. They are our first opponent after the break.
