AUSTIN SENDS BURMEISTER TO DETROIT
In a shocking move today the Austin Colts sent the 1st overall pick in the 2008 draft Jeremy Burmeister and 36-year-old RP Josh Lanman to the Detroit Phantom for 22-year-old IF prospect Viriato Carrapto.
Carrapto was signed out of Venezuela in 2002 and many think he MAY turn into a decent everyday 2B.
But the unanimous opinion was and is that Burmeister is a generational talent and the resources spent to sign him were significant.
The Colts are in the throes of a nightmarish 37-56 season while Detroit sits atop the AL East, tied with Florida.
One story surfacing late in the day out of Austin the Burmeister's father, and agent, had demanded their son be traded away from the Colts or he would have refused to sign. Many thought the Colts should just let him return to the draft and taken the pick, but that same source said they felt Carrapto is a far better player than many think.
This will be a trade worth following.
