August 14th, 1878 - Despite having an excellent season on the field, Indianapolis Blues pitcher The Only Nolan has been a problem off the field this season. He missed today's game and told management that he was at a funeral. It didn't take management long to find out that he had been out drinking instead.
"It wasn't an easy decision," said manager John Clapp, "The kid has a lot of talent, but he also has a lot of maturing to do. Our locker room is better off today." Nolan will be replaced by pitcher Jim McCormick (2.16 ERA).
