September 27th, 1877 - Chicago White Stockings Win Second Straight Pennant
September 27th, 1877 - Without taking the field, the Chicago White Stockings clinched the National League pennant, thanks to Boston defeating Cincinnati 2 games in a row. There was certainly some doubt about the strategy of replacing Al Spalding with George Bradley, but Bradley has pitched a career year with a 1.65 ERA, and Al Spalding has batted .311 while playing first base. What a day for the city of Chicago, a city that only a few years back was engulfed in flames.
