My choice, if I were you? Write the article. Reason is, the month's "alternate history" is going to bother you as well. Not as much as your unintended snub, but you are going to view that month as some sort of weird parallel universe history.

have to go with this idea. As mentioned, both are going to gnaw at you a bit, but I always defer to the 'if it happens in the game, it's a part of the game' philosophy. Make it work somehow. Always avoid looking back at anything thinking it's only 'that' way because I intervened. Years ago, I remember an incident, vaguely, wherein I felt a player should not have the personality trait he was assigned. Bugged me and bugged me, and finally made the adjustment, then promptly deducted $500K from cash to pay for his coaching development so at least the offset was in place to mitigate any later guilt.
