June 19th-June 26th

June 19th, 2023: Down in Jacksonville, 3B Drew Bianco was named Southern League Player of the Week. He hit .448 with 10 RBI's and a homer.

We're up all the way to 3rd in the Power Rankings, trailing just Oakland and San Diego.

A duel of southpaws took place between Jordan Montgomery (6-1, 2.76 ERA, 1.25 WHIP) and Eric Lauer (1-3, 5.29 ERA, 1.25 WHIP) in the opener in Colorado. It wasn't a slugfest, and we edged the Rockies 4-3.

Montgomery had an interesting outing, 4.2 innings with 6 hits, a run, 2 walks, and 3 strikeouts. Max Povse finished the inning and earned the win. Jensen Elliot, Dustin May, and Luiz Gohara earned holds and Yasukazu Shiotani got the save. Elliot allowed a hit with 2 runs, a walk, and a strikeout.

Jose Ramirez and Seth Beer were both 1-for-4 with solo homers. Brendan Rodgers was 2-for-4. Mickey Moniak was 1-for-3 with a run scored, 2 walks, and a steal.

Today also marks the start of the GCL season, so I have to turn 75 to 40... I did a good job with cutting leftover players my old scout liked, but I ended with 46/40.

I acquired two players to make the cuts easier, 1B Juan Valera and RHP Matt Wotherspoon.

June 20th, 2023: The Yankees fired manager Aaron Boone with the team a pitiful 24-47. This was his 6 year as the manager, and won the 2019 World Series and made the playoffs in 2018 and 2020, but hasn't been back since.

Game two saw Walker Buehler (7-2, 3.39 ERA, 1.20 WHIP) and Juan Coira (2-0, 3.14 ERA, 1.25 WHIP) who is making his first start of the year after 35 releif appearences. The Rox got 7 in the 7th en route to a 9-5 win.

Buehler got the loss, allowing 3 hits, 2 runs, and 7 strikeouts. Shoehi Ohtani got a relief apperaence, but was dreadful, 5 runs and 2 hits in 0.1 inning with 3 walks and a strikeout. Elliot finished the game, 1.2 innings with 3 hits, 2 runs, 2 walks, and 3 strikeouts.

Brendan Rodgers hit his old team well, going 2-for-4 with 2 walks, 2 runs, 4 RBI's, a double, and three run homer. Seth Beer was 1-for-4 with a double and run scored. Jose Ramirez was 1-for-4 with 2 runs scored. Cole Roederer was 1-for-3 with a walk, RBI, and a double.

June 21st, 2023: Jace Vines (3-4, 5.46 ERA, 1.69 WHIP) and German Marquez (6-4, 4.66 ERA, 1.19 WHIP) dueled in the finale. Vines actually allowed just 1 run in his first start against the Rockies earlier in the year. THe 7th must be the Rockies inning, and they got 5 today to take the series with a 6-3 win.

Vines allowed 4 runs in 6+ innings with 7 hits, 2 walks, and 4 strikeouts. Phil Maton blew the save, allowing 2 runs off 2 hits, a walk, and strikeout in a third of the inning.

Ryan Mountcastle was 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI. Thomas Dillard was 1-for-4 with a solo homer. Shoehi Ohtani was 1-for-3 with a solo hoer and a walk.

It was dissapointing to lose the series to such a bad team, but we have to shake it off. Next comes four in Arizona, who also has had a rough season. We'd see Adrian Almeida (0-2, 9.11 ERA), Jean-Christophe Hernandez (0-2, 7.56 ERA), Brock Helverson (3-9, 5.32 ERA), and Taylor Clarke (3-4, 3.76 ERA). We need to win this series!

June 22nd, 2023: Joe JImenez re-joined the team, sending Jensen Elliot back down to AAA.

Nick Neidert (1-3, 6.46 ERA, 0.95 WHIP) toed the rubber in the opener in Chase Field against Adrian Almeida (0-2, 9.11 ERA, 1.99 WHIP). The skid continued, and we dropped the opener 8-1... We're so, so, so streaky...

Neidert allowed 6 hits and 6 walks in 6 innings to go with 6 runs. He struck out 5 and walked 1. Max Povse pitched the last 2 innings, allowing 5 hits, 2 runs, and 2 strikeouts.

Neidert had a good day with the bat, 2-for-2 with a double. Jose Ramirez was 2-for-3 with a wlak. Seth Beer was 2-for-4 with a double.

June 23rd, 2023: We looked to stop the skid with A.J. Puckett (2-2, 5.65 ERA, 1.91 WHIP) facing Jean-Christophe Hernandez (0-2, 7.56 ERA, 2.04 WHIP). It was a close one, but he edged them 3-2.

Puck pitched well, 2 unearned runs in 6 innings wigh 2 hits, 3 walks, and 2 strikeouts. Koda Glover got a hold, 2 perfect innings with 2 strikeouts. Yasukazu Shiotani got the save with 2 strikeouts in a perfect 9th.

Nick Gordon was 3-for-4 with an RBI and a walk. Seth Beer was 1-for-4 with a double. Cole Roederer was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Jose Ramirez was 0-for-1 with 3 walks, an RBI, and a steal.

Former Marlin RF Cole Brannen was 5-for-5 in a 15-5 win as his Angels beat the Rangers.

Sam Keating tossed a 7-0 shutout as the Padres beat the Dodgres.

June 24th, 2023: Jordan Montgomery (6-1, 2.71 ERA, 1.28 WHIP) took the mound for game three against Brock Helverson (3-9, 5.32 ERA, 1.58 WHIP). They got 3 in the 8th to take the game 4-2.

Montgomery, for some reason, threw just 75 pitches in 5 innings. He did great, 5 strikeouts, just 4 hits, and a run. Koda Glover got the loss, 3 runs (2 earned) in 1.1 inning off 4 hits and 2 strikeouts.

Seth Beer was 2-for-2 with a solo homer, 2 walks, and 2 total runs scored. Jose Ramirez was 1-for-3 with a walk, but made the error.

It's really been a rough stretch for us recently...

June 25th, 2023: All-Star Voting update: Dillard is still in 1st, with Buehler and Montgomery three and four. Tyler Jay dropped out.

There were four season ending injuries. Four!

The White Sox will be without SP Jon Duplantier for the year with radial nerve compression.

The Royals will be without RP Will Smith for the year with a torn flextor tendon.

The Rays will be without 3B Kaleb Cowart with a broken bone in his elbow.

The Angels will be without former Marliln Adam Conley with a stretched elbow ligament.

I also finally addressed my starting pitching issue, acquiring Jake Junis from the Rays for RP Mitchell Kilkenny, RP Riley McCauley, and RF Andrew McCutchen. Cutch was added as a minor league free agent, same with Kilkenny, and McCauley was from Minnesota.

Junis is a 2.5 with eliete control, amazing stamina, and a cheap contract. This year, he's 3-2 with a 4.29 ERA in 8 starts with a 1.17 WHIP. He's not great, but he's solid and dependable, which is more then I can say about three fifth of my rotation. Neidert will be sent down to AAA.

The finale took place between Jhoan Duran (3-4, 4.44 ERA, 1.41 WHIP) and Walker Buehler (7-3, 3.36 ERA, 0.98 WHIP) in a must-win game. Or 10-4 loss, if that's easier...

Buehler was rocked for 7 runs and 5 hits in 1.1 innings. He walked 4 and struck out 3. It was brutal... Edward Cabrera, however, was great, 3.2 innings with 4 strikeouts. Dustin May allowed 2 more runs and the last was off Max Povse. Today sucked...

Shoehi Ohtani was 2-for-4 with a solo homer. Nick Feight hit a pinch hit homer in the 9th. Lewis Brinson was 1-for-4 with an RBI double. Nick Gordon swiped three bags and was 2-for-5.

Luckily, tomorrow is an off day, and even more lucky, we're still 5.5 games up. And best of all, we'll finally return home after a despicable road trip. It's crazy, we're 27-9 at home and 18-22 on the road.

June 26th, 2023: As expected, we made a plunge in the Power Rankings. We're all the way down to 9th, and we deserve it. We looked awful against a cellard dweller and a pretender.

We're finally home, and we have a quick two game set with Cleveland. They're not having a great year, 37-38 and 8.5 out of first. We're projected to see Triston McKenzie (4-5, 4.60 ERA) and Jhon Vergara (4-6, 5.16 ERA). Let's turn things back around!
