Question about historical lineups and transactions

I just started a historical game and I'm managing the 2003 Detroit Tigers. I have historical lineups and transactions turned on.

Two major questions:

1) Other than referencing schedules and results on baseball-reference, how do I know which pitchers are supposed to be starting soon? I don't want to bring in a reliever if he's scheduled to start a game two days later, as an example.

2) Why aren't the rosters correct? On April 3, 2003 in real life, Franklyn German pitched an inning for the Tigers in a 3-0 loss to the Twins. In my sim on April 3, 2003, he wasn't even on my roster. Now, I'm a manager only, so the AI is the GM, and is that why? I have a guy on my roster who didn't even pitch in 2003 (Tyler Walker) and Franklyn German is in Rookie ball.

3) Does the "Cannot be fired" option disappear with Challenge Mode? I have Challenge Mode turned on but don't see the option to not get fired.

Can I get some help with these questions?
