The Montreal Expos have a chance to win the franchises very 1st World Series today in Boston against the Boston Red Sox. The Expos lead the series 3-0. The Expos are calling upon 26 year old LHP Jim Lea today. Lea was 5-5 with a 4.11 ERA in 16 starts in the regular season. He was added to the playoff roster and has yet to pitch in the 1978 post season. The Red Sox go with RHP David DeVeau, the 27 year old was 6-7 with a 3.26 ERA in 21 starts this year with the Padres (15) and Red Sox (6). So far in this post season DeVeau is 1-0 with a 2.61 ERA in 2 starts (10.1 IP)

The Montreal Expos had their chances including bases loaded and 0-outs in the 7th, only to not score a run. A walk off, lead off HR in the 10th by Sven Schultz off of RHP Carlos Vera, the only batter he faced so far in the post season was the difference as the Boston Red Sox stay alive.

Red Sox SS Matt Nesser was the player of the game, he was 3 for 5 with 3 singles and scored 2 with an RBI. The 24 year old is now hitting .381 with 0 HRs and 5 RBIs in 11 games. Nesser despite his age has 4 year of MLB post season experience, in 38 games he is hitting .299 with 0 HRs and 9 RBIs.

Expos LF Yue-Jiu Zhou had 3 hits for Montreal, including his 1st double. Zhou also picked up his 5th SB of the playoffs. 2B Mat Garnett picked up his 5th and 6th SB's of the playoffs as well. Expos RHP Matt Upton was credited with a blown save, his 1st of the playoffs and RHP Carlos Vera takes the loss and is now 0-1.

After the game the Expos found out they will be without the services of LHP Charlie Rancourt. The 33 year old is 0-1 with 1 save, a 5.06 ERA in 7 appearances this post season. (5.1 IP).
