The Montreal Expos will face the Boston Red Sox in the In the 1978 World Series. Montreal finished 6th in offense in the NL with 380 runs, but that's because they played small ball and stole a lot of bases as they were ranked 12th in actual hitting. They will face the Red Sox pitching that was ranked 6th with 413 runs against. The Expos will face the AL's 3rd ranked offense, the Red Sox scored 456 runs, just over 75 more runs then the Expos. The Expos had the number 2 pitching staff in the NL that allowed just 352 runs. It will be the Expos pitching and defense vs the Red Sox offense.

The Boston Red Sox and the Montreal Expos will open up game one of the World Series in Montreal today. The Red Sox will start RHP Travis Drew, the 35 year old was 8-1 with a 3.15 ERA in 16 starts this year. He has not pitched in the post season this year as this will be his 1st start. The Montreal Expos grab game 1 with a win in a tight game. It appeared Montreal had things in good shape until a PH Sho Motoi 3 run HR in the 6th tied the game. The Expos did get the lead back on a CF Danny Plantz Sac Fly that scored PR Roberto Duran in the 8th. Montreal CL Aidan Beasley who was shaky in the NL League Championship gave up a lead off hit in the 9th that startled the Expos faithful, but he got a timely double play to end the threat and get his 2nd save to the post season.

Expos C Mark Inge was named the player of the game, he was 2 for 3 including a solo HR in the 5th. His single in the 8th got things started in the inning, he was lifted for a Duran to PR and he later scored. Inge is now hitting .222 with 1 HR and 4 RBIs in 7 post season games. For his career he is hitting .265 with 2 HRs and 12 RBIs in 18 post season games.

Expos 3B Gilberto Luna collected his 5th SB of the post season in the win. Expos LHP Matt Cruz got the win for his 2 innings of work and is now 1-0 in the post season.
