This is so much a matter of personal preference and really no right or wrong way to do it.
As a relative newbie I will tell you what has worked for me so far.
In my first primary project (Colorado Rockies historical game starting with 1993 season) I settled into a pattern where I liked to take it week-by-week, playing out 1 game per week and simming the rest. I generally like to play as GM and manager both but don't like to do a lot of in-game managing so I basically set up the overall strategies and use 7-day lineups to set up the week but then I let the AI take care of in-game strategies and substitutions.
But now I have switched to a fictional league and, especially with the 3D improvements in OOTP19, I am playing out every single game my team plays. Still, as above, mostly just watching and letting the AI make the moves but occasionally I will jump in when I feel the need- usually to make a pitching substitution.
You will find folks here who sim seasons at a time and quickly get to 100 years of history in a league. You will find others who manage pitch-to-pitch, every single game their team plays.
Whatever works for you, that is the way to go.
But for me, if I am playing with a team I don't know well (and especially in the case of a team/league of fictional players), I like to move more slowly and really watch as the season unfolds. (Right now, in my current fictional project, I am even watching every Arizona Fall League game of the team that contains members of my organization. And loving it!)

Wow awesome. So when you set up the 7 day lineup look at what pictures you are facing and make the appropriate changes in the lineup whether it be a right-handed pitcher or left-handed pitcher? And when you play the game or watch the game on fold do you just click the add back button or the swing button or is there anyway just let the game unfold in front of you without touching anything and let the manager take control of all of that ? I would like to thank you very very much for responding to my questions I am getting hooked on this game I can’t wait till I know more.
