i'd use a spreadsheet. merge cells for any area for 'notes'

but the other functionality makes it far superior to a word-processor program. auto-increment, cell references etc etc.. can automate a ton of stuff or just plain easier to work with and edit / re-arrange etc. sort. blah blah blah

when i create a custom league and micromanage everyhting down to finances and market sizes, spreadsheets really help make it a faster process.

shortlists in game are useful.. plenty of threads on it to find.

google any keywords witht he following appended at end:
*** copy/paste
site:http://www.ootpdevelopments.com
***
ugh can't undo the /url tage... jsut the syntax is need, don't click the link, lol... highlight "site:" too and copy/paste
google search is far more intuitive ethan the forum search.. misspelled words, abbreviations, pluralization won't hinder search as much. when you use the "site:" qualification, it limits it to just ootpdev.com etc. no excess junk.

some ideas:

Locked MiL Players list: the more important prosepcts in my minors i lock to a level (right click a player - game strategies) and control their promotions and where they play through forcing a role if necessary. i delegate the rest to AsstGM and mil managers.

MiL Prospects -- not in my organization. based on near and future needs. creating this list is a pain, but maintaining it is incremental effort each year and much easier. constant adding and removing etc. this can be an on-demand thing too.. use filters and sorting to find suitable targets for a trade of need -- then see what each costs in trade screen and make a wise decision between the viable options. (hand notes can help here during process too)

Temp List -- i use 'default' list as a temp/pre-loading list.. during draft for the elite prospects initially - moved to prospects or locked mil prospects list above after 1st round completes -- then incrementally adding draft pool players i think will stick around for a few rounds and of similar quality i want to grab if still available etc - after they are gone, a lower tier of draft pool players and rince repeat process until it doesn't matter (14-20th round and later it won't matter depending on depth of draft pool). or maybe FA targets temp list etc.. but cleared out when done using it. if necessary, some players will migrate to an existing list from above.

Trade away list -- helps me remember who i intend to trade away in next ~year or so.

always look for aprocess that limits effort. e.g. you don't want to shortlist every single prospect you like ina draft... 99% won't be there when you pick, so it's a wasted effort.

shorltist special prospects, then tiers relative to quality.. once tha tquality is gone, next tier is shortllisted. early on it may only be 5-10 names per every couple rounds. it's gets to be a bigger list when it's mostly junk on the board. and once it's a 'commodity' don't even bother.
