At the University of Kansas, he completed an Engineering degree and was signed by the LA Dodgers. He served as an officer in the U.S. Artillery at Fort Sill, Oklahoma before reporting to the Dodgers in 1964 and was then traded to the New York Mets where he played in 1965 and 1966. His claim to fame was as the last pitcher Casey Stengel took out of a game.
