FWIW, I believe it is possible to try so hard to make your universe "realistic" that you forget to have fun. Once you try to replicate your idea of how baseball should be, then I think you are doomed to disappointment.
I view any universe I start as organic. If I obsess over every box score and player stat then I will quickly find something to quibble about. However I defy anyone to read Baseball Register's real stats, and not wonder how the heck that event happened.
For those of us who have played for years I suggest that if you have your league almost the way you want it. Then play it. If you like creating unique universes then you have already chosen to sacrifice realism on the altar of your own imagination.
