2027 recap

The Minnesota Twins won the World Series in seven games over the Padres, but fell in six games to the Shohei Ohtanis. The Twins had carried three Ohtanis during the season- Twins Ohtani, Reds Ohtani, and Phillies Ohtani- so it was hard to have to pass them over to the Ohtanis during the Shohei Ohtani Championship Series. In addition to their 60% Ohtani rotation, the Twins had an aging Bryce Harper, who hit .283 with 45 home runs and 119 RBI.

Braves Ohtani won the AL MVP for the Texas Rangers, hitting .328 with 35 homers and 96 RBI while also going 14-9 with a 3.73 ERA.

Royals Ohtani signed a five-year extension worth $185 million with Kansas City. He's one of five Ohtanis who have a $30 million or greater annual salary.

Indians Ohtani is not faring so well. He couldn't pull down a major league job this year and scuffled in both AA and AAA; he may be the first Ohtani to flame out of the league, which is amazing given that all 30 Ohtanis have managed to avoid career-ending injuries or severe ineffectiveness to this point.

There are currently three Ohtanis in ***; one of them, Astros Ohtani, won the Central League MVP there this season.

Shohei Ohtani Hitter of the Year Award: Braves Ohtani (.328/35/96)

Shohei Ohtani Pitcher of the Year Award: Padres Ohtani (14-1, 2.60)

Most Valuable Ohtani Award: Braves Ohtani

Least Valuable Ohtani Award: Indians Ohtani

Most Innovative Use of an Ohtani Award: Tigers Ohtani. He may have been the first time a team used an Ohtani exclusively as a reliever, and he didn't disappoint, allowing just one run in 17 innings.
