From experience, this is a sac fly, standing up, because the ball is so deep. But on this play, the runner tags and runs at almost 0.5x normal animation speed towards home plate, and arrive at the same time as the throw home. Then umpire calls - Out! It seems upon the catch, the AI make a decision roll on whether sac fly attempt will be thrown out or not, then adapts the animation to the decision (in this case, out).
Is this OOTP 18 or 19? I don't have 19, so I don't know if it's changed there. But OOTP 18 seems very clearly to determine the result of the play first, then try to show it in the animation. So I'll always see fielders moving slow to what looks like an easy catch so that they can miss it. Or another one is a throw to the cutoff man who just stands there with the ball while the runner is still only halfway to 2B on his double, and never throws. So really, the animation give no greater info on the play than the play by play...
