Everyone, please note the second paragraph of this thread's first post. Especially where it says, "Players may not be listed under the teams you might normally expect, however, for space-related or balance-related reasons, at least, if not for any other reasons as well, in fact." Seeing as real-world MLB has only 30 teams, not 32 as in this setup, the other two teams have to be stocked as well, of course, for this setup, and I would prefer to keep the number of fictional players down as much as possible for them, at least at first. Also, I wanted to add certain Negro League and/or other players to the mix of players available for various teams to have on their rosters to at least some degree, also at first.
Some of the players did not pan out in real life, but in at least one of my saved games, or at least in games that have begun inducting Hall of Fame members, certain players have been inducted so far, and I thought that it might be a good idea to include them in this game, to see how well they might do against certain other players they might not have yet encountered in any such saved game world/universe of mine to this point in time. I am also trying to spread out the talent, if, where, and when possible and appropriate, as fairly as I can, in the process of this baseball-related project of mine here, as well.
Yes, The Game, I know that many of the players listed for the White Sox, for example, never actually played for the White Sox in reality. But again I refer you to the second paragraph. Many of the names you have seen or will see, at least at first, will be of players that I have or once had baseball cards for in my life, if not most of them, in truth. However, I didn't generally add them to the teams' potential list of players until each team had at least 25-30 players, on average, already picked for them, at least for 30 of the teams I'm going to include in this setup, I believe.
The St. Louis Cardinals, for instance, will be hit considerably hard, I believe, by this sort of thing, with many of the good players ending up on at least one or two other teams, due to possible space-related concerns, for instance. They'll lose Jesse Burkett, Fernando Vina, and Danny Cox, to name a few of the players they'll ultimately be losing in this process, to at least one other team which I will mention later, for sure. Other teams will lose various other players as well. I did, however, at least for the first 15-25 players on the better-known teams, try to keep as many of their better players as possible. But certain teams, especially ones with longer franchise histories, will lose certain players, and that is unavoidable. Where players could not fit on their likely best-known team, for one reason or another, I tried often to place them on other franchises' rosters which they may have also played for in their actual careers, but was not always successful in that regard, I'm sure, everyone. For instance, Dave Winfield could logically have been on the Yankees, but I chose to place him with the Padres, as you will see later, seeing as the Yankees had many other possible choices for outfielders, of course.
Listen, I know that certain picks of players and/or managers for certain teams here may not necessarily agree well with you folks, at least every once in a while, but I'm trying to make it fairer, as best as I possibly can, for any player that may choose to run any team that may make its way into this game's setup, no matter what league that team may be in, by the time of this project's ultimate completion. Will I ultimately make a totally perfect setup here for this game's project? Probably not, but that doesn't mean I won't try, for sure, to do so, if and when and how I can, as best as I can, of course, folks.
I was beginning to type this on my tablet, but when it started to act up, I decided to try typing this on my laptop. As I write this, my tablet is still strangely in the process of starting up, even though I'd already started trying to type this post twice, before it started to do what it is now doing. For some reason, it's still acting up, and I had just unlocked it after it had spent hours charging up again, it seems. Hopefully it will eventually get back to the main screen, but we'll have to see about that later, I think. I hope it's not totally broken and all, or something, of course, but if it is, so be it, like it or not, folks.
Where players may not be on their expected teams, I sometimes tried to put them on teams closer to home, if not always. Mike Trout, for instance, will not be on the Angels, but on the New Jersey Generals, at least partly because he IS from New Jersey, after all, and I thought it appropriate that the Generals have a star who's actually from New Jersey and who might perhaps help to bring in the crowds for them, for instance. However, I don't know which park to use at least at first for the Generals, which I'm likely basing out of Newark, folks, at this point in time, whether historical or fictional. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, I'm sure. As for any teams without assigned parks that I may mention or have mentioned already in this thread, as well, in fact, the same thing will be true, I believe.
There will be no Washington Nationals here, seeing as the Senators are present. And I definitely happen to really like the idea of an MLB and/or AFBU team being in Montreal, because Toronto really needs another historical Canadian team to compete against instead of being Canada's only MLB/AFBU team here, I think.
I am also in the process of adding players manually to a draft pool for the 1901 season's draft, and I intend to do so manually after every season, if possible, with automatic creation of free agents off, and random debut off, and perhaps historical rookies off. This is so that I hopefully have more control over just who might be potentially draftable every year, seeing as the starting players here will have come from all over baseball history, after all.
Might I accidentally import certain players into the free agent or draft pools from time to time? Of course, but hopefully such instances will be rare to none, at any time, or at least as rare as possible, anyway, that is. Or might I accidentally import certain players more than once each? Possible, but hopefully that won't often happen, if at all, in the future, as well. Certainly there has already been, and probably will be, cloning, et cetera, at times, but I'll try to keep that from happening as much as I can, in any case at all, folks. However, with players like Babe Ruth, for example, I thought it might be better to give the Red Sox a starting pitcher, while the Yankees and Browns each get an outfielder. The Red Sox get George Ruth, the Yankees get Babe Ruth, and the Browns get Herman Ruth. I also have cloned Jose Mendez, and both of his clones are currently in the FA pool, under the names of Felipe Mencleri and Carlos Zedalva, if memory serves. Other players may be cloned from time to time as well, and I'm also thinking of perhaps cloning Jackie Robinson, by the way, but haven't yet decided to do that here. I'd like to perhaps import certain Japanese players into the mix periodically at some point, like Sadaharu Oh, for example, but have not yet been able to figure that sort of thing out here, unfortunately. Rest assured, though, if I can, I'll eventually get them into the mix, if not for MLB and/or the AFBU or whatever, then perhaps into the *** later, somehow, I'm quite sure.
I'll probably be posting my current picks for teams in the Continental League later today, if possible, but we'll all have to see about that later, I'm sure. Talk more with you all later, if and when I can, folks. CD out.
