In the bottom of the first, Otis scored from third when Mayberry grounded into a fielder's choice.
In the top of the second, Nelson delivered an RBI single to tie the game. The Rangers went on to load the bases with two out. But Maddox lined out to second to retire the side.
In the bottom of the second, Healy had a two RBI double to give the Royals the lead back.
In the bottom of the third, Kirkpatrick brought home two with a double.

In the bottom of the fourth, an infield hit for Otis scored Patek from third.
Piniella led off the bottom of the fifth with a single for the Royals 10th hit of the game. Kirkpatrick then singled to put runners at first and second with nobody out and Broberg was replaced by Don Stanhouse. A walk loaded the based with nobody out. Schaal then brought Piniella home with a sacrifice fly. One out later, and another walk loaded the bases with two out. But Otis flew out to right to end the inning.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Royals loaded the bases with one out. They then scored two on a Rojas double. With runners at second and third and one out, Mike Paul took the mound for the Rangers and promptly walked Schaal to load the bases. He then walked Healy to bring in a run. Patek then grounded into the 4-6-3 to end the inning.
After six: Kansas City 10 Texas 1.
In the top of the seventh, Billings scored from third when Johnson grounded into the 5-4-3. Biittner then singled for the Rangers 10th hit of the game.
In the bottom of the seventh, Piniella knocked one in with a single.
In the top of the eighth, the Rangers had a runner on second and two out and Al Fitzmorris took the mound for the Rangers. Carty greeted him with a run-scoring single.
In the bottom of the eighth, Healy hit a two out double but injured his leg on the play and had to leave the game. He was replaced by Steve Hovley. Patek then lined out to short to make it the only inning of the game the Royals failed to score in.
Final score: Kansas City 11 Texas 3.
