each shortlist can be labeled "battle for position X". clear them out each year... don't delete the lists. leave empty until needed. there's no feasible way to improve the efficiency of this. the only 'next step' possible for ease of use is having the AI do it for you.
all the useful hand-tailored things we can do that actually matter in ST are our responsibility to do. without thinking for you, it cannot do much more than list them on 1 screen as you dictate and provide statistical record of results for you to evaluate. this can be delegated to the ai, if you do want it to do more for you.
the whole ST player use thing... from the video game standpoint all you have to worry about is rust, maybe adding defensive experience at "other" positions. players don't get tired from bus rides or travel nor do they need 8 hours of sleep to function. anything you do above and beyond is esoteric/asthetic in nature. upto you if you want to do that stuff. make a post in future suggestions if you feel it should be "in the game", as ea says. appropriate triage can be expected.
alternatives/compromises to save you time:
ask ai to set depth chart only up, then make minor adjustments for defensive experience or a prospect that you want to play more etc. shouldn't be much work involved after that click.
remember that development on MLB roster does not require playing time.. in the minros playing time does augment developement a bit (per manual). so a prospect in ST will develop the same regardless of playing time.
all ST have dh? or if your league is 1 or the other, you can save a copy of your real depth chart on those screens. easy to copy back at end of ST. same with lineups, if needed.
