Starr Learns More about Injury: A blow for Earl Starr today -- team doctors were able to determine the full extent of his recent injury. He will miss 4 months with a torn back muscle. Starr suffered the injury on 05/27/2157. The team will likely place Starr on the disabled list today.
This year Starr has collected no saves in 22 relief appearances. He has also compiled a 0-0 won-lost mark with a 1.67 ERA and fanned 30 batters in 27 innings. Opponents are hitting him at a .230 clip in 2157.
Chapman Week's Best in CL: At the age of 32, Jim Chapman might have some potential he hasn't realized yet -- if his success at the plate last week is any indication. The Tamarac second baseman put up some exceptional numbers the past seven days with a .542 batting average. For his efforts Chapman collected the Continentall League Player of the Week Award.
He racked up 13 hits in 24 at-bats, 1 home run and 4 RBIs last week in 6 games.
Currently Chapman is batting .348 with 10 home runs and 37 RBIs.
Week's #1 Player: Ladue's Werner: Tim Werner is respected by most Ladue Ducks fans for his no-frills style of play. The 30-year-old first baseman went about his business with vigor last week to grab the National League Player of the Week honors.
He compiled a .414 average (12-for-29) with 3 home runs, 6 RBIs and 7 runs scored.
This year Werner is batting .337 with 66 hits, 9 home runs, 32 RBIs, 37 walks, .443 OBP and has scored 31 runs.

6-Hit Blitz by Ladue's Elliot: Jake Elliot said "it felt like taking batting practice" today at Continentals Ballpark, and it showed in the box score. The Ladue second baseman had a fantastic 6-for-7 day against the Elyria Continentals, leading his club to victory, 14-5.
"I was seeing the ball very well and it was going just about anywhere I wanted," Elliot said later."
Jake Elliot hit an RBI double in the 1st, hit a three-run home run off Mike Matthews in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 5th, singled in the 6th, doubled in the 8th and grounded out in the 9th.
To date Elliot has chalked up a .345 average with 11 home runs, driven in 51 runs and scored 28 times.
Big Day with Bat: Werner 5-for-5: It was a good day for the Ducks at Continentals Ballpark as they clipped the Elyria Continentals, 14-5. It was tremendous day for Tim Werner, who was on a hitting barrage at the plate, finishing 5-for-5.
"I don't know what to call that," the Ladue first baseman told reporters after his big performance. "I'm not 'dialed in' or 'in a zone,' I just try to keep it simple. Basically the pitcher throws the ball, I try to pick up the spin, then I hit it. Today I picked up the spin pretty well."
Tim Werner singled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Mike Matthews in the 4th, singled in the 5th, walked in the 6th, singled in the 8th and walked in the 9th.
Looking at his season stats, Werner has compiled a .353 batting average and a .459 on-base percentage, while hitting 10 home runs and driving in 34 runs.
Aaron Dutton Bashes Three over the Wall: Trinidad City shortstop Aaron Dutton blasted three homers today at Pelicans Ballpark in the 12-6 Jets victory over the Emmaus Pelicans.
For the game, Aaron Dutton scored 3 times and knocked in 7 runs. When he hit his last home run, his teammates, hearing the crack of the bat, leaped off the bench and rushed on the field to greet the jubilant Dutton when he reached home plate.
"It was just one game, but it sure was a lot of fun -- 3-for-5, three roundtrippers and a win," a gleeful Dutton told BNN reporters in a postgame interview. "What a day."
Aaron Dutton grounded out in the 1st, flied out in the 4th, hit a two-run home run off Mike McCormick in the 6th, hit a two-run home run off Dan Lanier in the 8th and hit a three-run home run off Chris Edwards in the 9th.
This year Dutton is batting .332 with 13 home runs. He has scored 41 runs and driven in 45.
Season Ends for Ritacco: In a news release, the Clayton Crows announced that left fielder Andy Ritacco would miss the rest of the season due to a broken bone in the elbow. Ritacco sustained the injury on 05/27/2157. He "will be sorely missed," said his manager.
This year Ritacco is hitting at a .302 pace with 9 home runs and 26 RBIs. He has played in 48 games and scored 39 times.
Rolston Set to Retire: Jesse Rolston said he's made enough money in professional baseball, so it's time to move on.
"I did pretty well for myself, my bank account isn't hurting, maybe I'll become a manager or a team owner or something so I can make even more," he said, announcing this season would be his last. "I'm 36 years old, so I've still got some time to make something of the rest of my life."
Fasullo Wins Best Bat Award in May: To Frank Fasullo, age is just a number.
He may be 42 years old, but the Soulard Apache right fielder proved in May that he's still got what it takes to compete at an elite level.
With a .376 average, 6 home runs, 20 RBIs, and 20 runs scored, Fasullo had all the numbers that counted and has won the Continentall League Batter of the Month award.
Fasullo is currently batting .317 with 10 home runs and 28 RBIs.
Trinidad City's Holmgren Bags NL Batting Award: Mike Holmgren has a lot going for him. The Trinidad City left fielder just broke into the majors this year and now the National League has just picked him as its top hitter for May.
In 27 games last month this outstanding rookie batted .350 with 7 home runs, 23 RBIs and 18 runs scored.
This season Holmgren is hitting at a .339 pace with 12 home runs, 41 RBIs and has scored 42 times.
McFarland Best CL Starter in May: In May, Aaron McFarland tore through the Continentall League like a seasoned veteran -- quite impressive for a player only 23 years old.
The young Soulard starter posted a 4-0 mark and an ERA of 1.94 to earn the Pitcher of the Month award. In 41.2 innings he collected 45 strikeouts while limiting the opposition to a .217 average.
This season McFarland has worked 70.2 innings with 62 strikeouts en route to a 5-2 record and a 3.06 ERA.
May's Best Starter Named in NL: Jason Murray took a much-deserved turn in the spotlight earlier today as he accepted the National League Pitcher of the Month award for May.
The 26-year-old Jets starter is a relative newcomer to the league, but nonetheless racked up an impressive 5-1 won-lost record in 6 starts. This month he fanned 25 batters in 38 innings and compiled a 3.08 ERA.
This season Murray has a 6-1 record with a 4.22 ERA in 10 starts.
Carver Selected May's Top CL Rookie: When you think of rookies, you think of men in their early to mid-20's. Despite the fact that Steve Carver is 32, he made a big splash by putting up solid numbers to win Continentall League Rookie of the Month honors.
He told BNN reporters at the press conference, "I'm thrilled beyond words. All I can say is... better late than never."
In May, the New Charleroi right fielder hit .418 while rapping out 33 hits, 5 home runs, 22 RBIs and 18 runs scored.
This year Carver has 8 home runs and a .367 batting average.
NL Selects Rookie Star of the Month: Jon Marinakis earned May's Rookie of the Month honors in the National League for last month's performance. The boyish Clayton shortstop might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.
Marinakis hit .385 with 4 home runs, 20 RBIs and 22 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.
So far this year Marinakis has 8 home runs and a .377 batting average.
Davis Set to Miss 5 Weeks: The Tamarac Unforgiven have made it official: Steve Davis is headed to the disabled list. The 30-year-old first baseman has been out since 06/03/2157 with a sore elbow. He is expected to miss 5 weeks.
Davis is presently hitting at a .242 pace with 9 home runs and 25 RBIs. He has played in 51 games and scored 19 times.
