1946 NHL Offseason News and Notes
Here are the top 10 scorers from the playoffs.
Maurice Richard dominated winning his first Stanley Cup
Milt Schmidt wins the Hart Trophy for a record 6th time!! This was his 10th season in the league. I guess hitting .600 isn’t too bad! Here are the rest of the awards and all stars…
Oops, forgot to screenshot the all-star teams. Oh well, next year.
The
Bruins have retired the #1 jersey of
Mike Karakas. He is easily the best goalie in team history, the thing is they don’t have the best history. He’s 141-155-38 in his career, but did post a save percentage of .912. I don’t really agree with this honour. It isn’t my decision though, and the team wants to remember his legacy, so here is
Mike Karakas’ banner.
Finally. The
Habs have finally traded
Turk Broda.
Broda joins the
Blackhawks, who with a good goalie, can be a playoff contender. They haven’t had a strong goalie in years.
Broda should be able to make a difference and have a really good 2nd half of his career there. He will play and play a lot.
Chicago gives up the #2 pick in the draft. Hefty price, and a good by by
Montreal getting value.
Alec Connell has been inducted into the NHL Hall of Fame.
Connell had an amazingly successful career, winning the most games ever. He had great runs with both
Ottawa, and
Detroit. Interestingly, he played just 3 games, in two different stints with the
Canadiens.
Connell is a very worthy addition to the Hall of Fame.
The
Detroit Red Wings have drafted
Gordie Howe first overall. Some things are meant to be I guess.
Gordie is the best forward prospect to enter the league since
Maurice Richard. The
Wings have a lot of talent, they just used it really poorly last year. Play
Johnny Bower, get
Howe on your 2nd line with
Apps and
Nick Metz, and you got the making of a scary team.
Chicago's pick was used by the
Habs to draft
Tom Johnson. He's a very talented defensman, who should be a top pairing guy for years to come.
The
New York Rangers are the only team to change their uniforms this year. They add the players number to the front of their jerseys instead of a logo.
