Did they actually turn out to be duds? Did performance drop-off follow the reduction in stars?
The star rating can be very misleading and you should promote/judge performance based off of... well, performance. Many times the AI will give a player a 5 star potential rating because they are fast and play a bunch of different positions. That's great, except when all of their potential batting ratings are max at 30/80. That is why you see a lot people on here going the "stats only" route. You don't have all this extra "bling" throwing off your evaluation of player performance.
