with that box checked, nothing will be done.. you must do everything for any team with that checked.
reserve rule? turn off free agency and such. up # of controlled years etc... you can stop players from moving around and still let the AI do the mundane stuff like move players to or from the DL.
finite space to look over. League Settings - Financials, rules, options, global settings, players and face gen, then your manager offices. if you can read it you can do it. GUIs are wonderful like that.
