This was posted in another thread about a similar issue. Does switching to fullscreen do anything for you?

I always ran in windowed before and never had an issue. I don't know what changed, but something did to make it crash/freeze in windowed mode. I hope this wasn't just a temporary thing. If anything changes I'll re-post, but hopefully you won't hear from me again on this issue.
