The struggling Montreal Canadiens (12-11-1) who are just 2-4-1 in their last 7 go to Little Caesars Place to face the Detroit Red Wings (13-6-3) who are 5-2-0 in their last 7. Detroit has won all 3 meetings this year between the teams.


Montreal gets the opening goal after a flurry of shots at the Detroit net, C Patrick Atkins makes it 1-0 with his 15th of the year at 2:14 of the 1st. Atkins deflected LD Dominick Heatherington's point shot from in tight on the goal. Montreal goes up 2-0 at 14:54 as RD Rinat Sadriyev gets his 3rd of the year. Sadriyev's shot from down low on the right side beats the Red Wing goalie after a pass from RW Zach Broderick. The Canadiens out shoot the Red Wings 15-9 in the 1st period.


The Detroit push back in the 2nd period and make it 2-1 at 8:32 when LD Mike Whaley's deflection beats G Bill Wolfenbarger for his 3rd goal of the year. The period ends with the shots now 24-17 for Montreal. The Habs will start the 3rd period with a 1:45 PP.


The Red Wings tie the score 2-2 while on a PP at 3:25 of the 3rd. RW Josef Hanak's shot from near the right face off dot goes in for his 7th of the year. A few minutes later, Detroit now on a 5 on 3 PP when RW Ken Patterson's shot from the left points eludes Wolfenbarger at 7:16 for his 6th of the year and a 3-2 Detroit lead. The Red Wings get a 3rd PP goal of the night at 10:50 when LW Chad Deraspe gets his 13th on a deflection from in tight. Its now 4-2 Detroit. Detroit holds off Montreal in the 3rd as the final shots are 40-26 for Montreal.
