but, you can't do much with it at that point.

when you are making decisions concerning the season's expenses, you spend all your money before it starts and are restricted by how much that projected expense eats up of your budget. set it lower and you can spend more, but that has obvious repercussions too.

shave off what you can, but be conservative. don't hamstring yourself over what amounts to a small percentage of player payroll (whatever amount you shaved off).

it's very smart to spend all of that 5M each year if you can. you can't do much with profits in this game

I'm assuming you left Max Cash at default of 10M. it's unwise to allow max cash on hand above default by any significant amount. it will screw up the economy if you allow teams to carry too much money over each year. costs of extensions will sky rocket and you can abuse this by always letting players go to FA for cheaper contracts and the ai is does not adapt in this way and constantly overpays for extending players. oh, and it takes nearly 2-3 months to sign them because their initial demands will be 150+% of what is normal in your league, so you better not screw up contract offer and be left with no options as ST starts, lol. takes time for those demands to drop to a realistic level.
