here's an older post, start at #5 and disregard the rants above post #5 ... RchW wrote up (with pictures) a good how to for back-ups. May be you were missing a step? If so, this could help. i know the first time i tried it, i had issues ... if this doesn't help ... send in a ticket (on the technical support page) and one of the developers should be able to help.)
