Game 1
The Stanley Cup is a best of 3 this season.
Lorne Carr opens the scoring with the first shot on net, his 2nd of the playoffs and the
Americans lead 1-0. They strike 3 times in 8 minutes in the 2nd, shell shocking the
Rangers.
George Hainsworth then shut the door the rest of the way. The
Americans win the opener in impressive fashion 4-0!
Game 2
Charlie Conacher gets the
Rangers their first goal of the final, which gives them a first period lead. The lead is extended to 2-0 with a
Eddie Wiseman power play goal in the 2nd. The teams exchange goals in the third, but that’s enough to force a third and deciding game. The
Rangers win game two, 3-1.
Game 3
The
Rangers come out of the gates on fire. They record the first 6 shots of the game, the sixth finding mesh.
Bill Thoms is the goal scorer. 1-0
Rangers. The
Americans respond and start controlling the play, but a
Tom Anderson point shot eludes
Hainsworth, and they find themselves down 2-0 halfway through the game.
Herbie Lewis scores a huge goal in the dying seconds of the 2nd to cut the lead to one.
Burr Williams finds himself on a two on one. He feeds
Gene Carrigan who buries a one timer to tie this game at 2!!
Off a offensive zone draw,
Charlie Conacher kicks the puck to
Bun Cook, who beats
George Hainsworth through the legs, and the
Rangers grab the lead back. The
Americans aren’t done though.
Aurel Joliat lets a slap shot go that is deflected by
Syd Howe. Goal! 3-3 with 3 minutes left.
Overtime
Halfway through the period.
Tom Anderson gets 3 whacks at the puck infront of the net.
Hainsworth stops them all, but the puck trickles to
Eddie Wiseman, who finds a way to score! GOAL! The
Rangers win the Stanley Cup!!!
