A good Sunday to you all. Welcome back to the official 2018 San Diego Padres report, "One Padres Way!" As always, I'm your host, Matt Stanley. New GM, ForeverRoyalKC and his staff, made a trade today as former Padres' pitcher, Jarred Cosart was traded to the D-Backs for starting pitcher, Patrick Corbin. Cosart was 13-13 with a 4.24 ERA in 199.1 IP. he gave 19 home runs with 75 walks.
Corbin sported a 4-4 record with a 5.55 ERA in 121 IP while giving up 21 home runs and 48 free passes.
This may not be a popular decision with the San Diego fans as they have seen the difference in the stats and wonder if FRKC has made his first mistake.
Says Padres' fan,
Charles H.: "I'm not sure about this trade. I was estatic about the Khris Davis trade, but I wonder if we took a step back with this one!"
Jason J. said: "He goofed here! We should have let Cosart try and turn it around, see if he could get a winning record next year. I think we downgraded!"
Samantha L. had this to say: "I put my trust in the new GM. I don't think it's as bad as it's being made out to be. Maybe he is mediocre, maybe he is just what we need. We'll see."
FRKC released this statement to the press just after the trade:
"I have had my eye on Patrick for a while. Even though I wasn't in baseball as Patrick has built his career, I have been a fan of his and there is just something about him that I have picked up on. I truly believe he can come in here and be a real contributor to our club and our mission."
Slowly but surely, the new GM is methodically putting his pieces in place. There is major buzz around Petco Park that we might want to keep our eyes focused on November 24, the start of free agency. This "buzz" just might be the big free agent FRKC was eluding to in our brief interview. I know I, as well as all of you Padres fans, will be excited for the 24th to see if the club makes an immediate offer to a big name! We just might have some early Christmas presents! I can't wait!
Well, that's it for now, folks. I'm your host, Matt Stanley. Thanks for tuning into "One Padres Way" from Petco Park in San Diego!
Good night, everybody!
