1898 Week 5

Coach Donnie Gallego used all 14 of his position players - and 17 in all - as Schuykill beat Hudson Tech 13-7. The visiting Hawks scored the first 10 runs of the game, but defensive miscues allowed the Chargers to get themselves back into it by cutting the score after the 6th to 12-7. Pat Perez and Bob Nagle came in in relief and shut the door on the Hudson Tech comeback.

Schuykill was led by Calvin Leonard's four hits, five RBI's and two runs scored. Leonard also committed his first error of the season today - a marked improvement from last year's 14 errors in 14 games mark. Bill Meeks and Pete Soto added three hits apiece, while Daniel Hargrove, Steve Gordon and Bill Clark all added two hits each.

Jacob Griggs took the loss for Hudson Tech, giving up 10 runs, only two of which were earned. Four Hudson Tech hitters knocked two hits each - Fedor Bairov, Billy Lane, Jose Diaz, and Don Pierce.

Combined, the first three hitters in the Chargers lineup outhit their opponents, going 6-14 with 4 RBI's and 3 runs scored. The visiting Schuykill hitters combined for a 4-14 day with three runs scored and one RBI.
