1924 NHL Offseason
Hap Day wins the Hart Trophy. He’s the first defenceman to take the award. I guess that trade with
Toronto a year and a half ago has worked out. A Stanley Cup and a Hart Trophy added to
Day’s cabinet! He’s a pretty young guy too!
Here is the first team NHL All-Stars for the 1923-24 season….
Here are the rule changes for 1924-25
Newsy Lalonde has retired. The 35 year old retires as the NHL leader in Goals, with 94, and points with 260. He won 4 Stanley Cup’s with
Montreal, and the 1920 Hart trophy as the leagues MVP. Here’s a look at
Lalonde’s career.
Here is the 1924 NHL Draft results
Joe Primeau is the first pick of the 1924 draft, heading to the
Montreal Maroons. Primeau has star potential. I think he looks great right now.
Saskatoon signed him, so he will play in the
WCHL for the time being, but one day soon, when that league folds, the
Maroons are gonna have a stud.
Huge news out of
Toronto
The
St. Pats have agreed to sign C
Nels Stewart to a 2 year contract.
Stewart was drafted by
Toronto 2nd overall in 1920. He spent the last 4 years playing with
Vancouver of the
WCHL, but his
NHL rights remained with
Toronto. When his contract expired this summer, the
Pats pounced, and are adding a Franchise player.
Nels Stewart is a star!
Stewart recorded 125 points in 89 games during his
WCHL run.

Howie Morenz has joined the
Montreal Canadiens! Like
Stewart, he spent 4 years in the
WCHL, and dominated. The Stratford Streak was the 3rd pick in a great 1920 draft, and will finally join the
NHL.
Morenz finished his time with
Vancouver having played 98 games, scoring 143 points!
