The
PBDL is a long-running OOTP v18 fictional league that features a promotion/relegation format between 3 leagues (Gold, Silver, and Bronze) each having 8 teams.
We have over 30 years of in-game history and a strong competitive environment (including an active trade market) between experienced OOTP players.
If that is enough to convince you to join,
go here and submit the form, and I'll get back to you with all the details.
If you want to learn more, see below.
Our wonderful commish recently got burned out after running the league by himself for 5 years, so I'm now administering the league, with all players, teams, history, etc., intact; however, I've added some rules that I believe make the league even more fun and competitively balanced. We want running a team to be as low-impact as possible, so we have a low barrier to entry.
About 12 original owners made the transition, and we've recruited several other high-quality owners. We're ready to get started in the next few days with the first post-season sim (arbitration), so it's a perfect time to jump in.
Open teams as of 10/29 (but three people are in the process of picking a team, so hurry):
"Why should I join this/another league," you may ask. Well, read on.
1. We have a promotion/relegation format, which means that the top 2 teams in SIL and BRZ advance to the league above and the bottom two teams in GLD and SIL move down (generally... see the rules for the minutia). Want a challenge? Take a team from BRZ and make it all the way to a GLD championship, and stay there!
2. We use
the amazing Stats+ platform for drafting (it's perfect for mobile devices) and for delivering all kinds of awesome stats that the basic OOTP web pages don't show.
3. We have an
active Slack channel (invite only) that is used for the majority of league chatter, trade talks, etc., as well as real-time sims!
4. All three leagues draft in a combined draft, with the top 12 draft slots being decided by a "Not necessarily the playoffs" round-robin tournament, which incentivizes winning (get the highest seed you can for HFA) and keeps things exciting through the League Playoffs and the overall Association Championship.
5. We only play 84 games per season, with 4 sims per week of 7 days each, and we blaze through off-seasons. This results in a few things. The higher variance of a shorter season means bad teams aren't necessarily doomed to miss the playoffs. Also, even if your team isn't good now, the seasons roll over fast enough so that it doesn't take long to turn over a roster. Bad decisions/dev can be fixed without struggling through a real-time year.
6.
Our new rules emphasize simplicity and fun. A sample of our important rules:
- The maximum length of contract offers (FA and extensions) is 4 years
- A player’s salary must be for the same amount in every year of the contract
- No contract incentives are allowed
- Only team options are allowed
- Coaches and scouts are disabled
- No minor league FA, no Rule 5 draft, no secondary rosters, no playoff rosters
- Two seasons' worth of draft picks are tradable
- A robust IFA auction at mid-season
- Cash maximum is $10 million
- No messing with or worrying about ticket prices/fan interest/market size/etc. A team's revenue is predictive and based on regular-season placement the previous season, according to the following schedule:
1st place: $10,750,000
2nd place: $10,500,000
3rd place: $10,250,000
4th place: $10,000,000
5th place: $9,750,000
6th place: $9,500,000
7th place: $9,250,000
8th place: $9,000,000
- In addition, playoff teams get revenue from a playoff bonus pool (GLD = $4m total pool; SIL and BRZ = $2m total pool)
We used to allow contract offers of up to 10 years; as a result, there are a few albatross contracts out there. You don't have to worry about taking over a team with one of these horrible contracts, because all owners get one free release of a player in this reboot.
Also, this free release is tradable, so if you don't need it, trade it to somebody that needs more than one!
The league was based on a NHL theme, which is why all the teams are named after NHL franchises; however, all owners are free to relocate and rename their teams as they wish, and change their park factors. Several already have.
