The Expos out hit the Astros 10 to 9but did not out scored them. The Astros took a 3-2 lead in the top ofthe 8th. Expos SP Eddie Hernanez (4-11) pitched well enough to win,he allowed 3 runs on 9 hits with 7 K's but allowed 4 BB's in acomplete game loss. SS David Sanchez had 3 hits including his 4th HRof the year.


Game 2
The Expos and Astros were postponed forgame 2 due to poor weather.


The Montreal Expos announced that LFMat Garnett will miss up to 5 weeks with a strained hamstring. The 27year old is hitting .258 with 4 HR's and 21 RBI's in 61 games. Forhis career, Garnett is hitting .264 with 15 HR's and 94 RBI's in 284career MLB games. The Expos have promoted LF Jorge Garrido from AAASeattle, the 27 year old is hitting .320 with 8 HR's and 20 RBI's in31 AAA games. Houston Astros 3B Gregorio Cortes was 3for 4 with 4 RBI's in a 13-6 win over the Giants. The 24 year old isnow hitting .337 with 12 HR's and 54 RBI's in 66 games. For hiscareer, Cortes is hitting .311 with 69 HR's and 248 RBI's in 360 MLBgames.

The Expos did have 11 hits including 1B DarrenMaher's 11th HR and LF Jorge Garrido's 1st career MLB HR.


Los Angeles Dodgers 2B Chris Woodburywas 4 for 4 with 2 HR's and 4 RBI's in a 5-0 win over the Braves. The31 year old is now hitting .322 with 10 HR's and 47 RBI's in 67games. For his career, Woodbury is hitting .329 with 98 HR's and 478RBI's in 776 MLB games.

The Expos get clobbered by the Redsbeing out hit 17 to 9. The Reds scored 4 runs twice, once in the 3rdto take a 7-0 lead and 4 more in the 6th to take a 11-1 lead. ExposSP Carlos Vera (5-5) allowed 7 runs on 9 hits over just 3 innings.The Expos got 3 RBI's courtesy of 1B Darren Maher's 12th HR in the8th. The Expos also got a solo shot from CF Danny Plantz, his 3rd ofthe year.

The Expos get a walk off RBI single by2B Chris Nichols to score SS David Sanchez from 2nd for the win inthe bottom of the 10th. Expos SP Eddie Hernanez allowed 1 run on 3hits with 10 K's over 7 innings and left the game with a 3-1 lead. CLAiden Beasley blew his 2nd save the of the year giving up a run on 2hits. RHP Eddie Gonzalez (1-0) shut down Cardinal offense in the 10thfor the win.


Minnesota Twins SP Adalgiso Wielandallowed 0 runs on 2 hits with 4 K's over 8 innings in a 1-0 loss tothe White Sox. The 24 year old is now 4-6 with a 2.67 ERA in 16starts. Last season Wieland was 2-2 with 1 save, a 4.62 ERA in 38games for the Twins.

The Cardinals out hit the Expos 10 to 9and broke a 3-3 tie in the 7th off of usually reliable LHP DaveMarland for the win. Marland (1-1) allowed 1 run on 2 hits over 2.1innings for the loss. Montreal SP Jesse Deck made his 1st career MLB start, he allowed 4 runs (3 earned) on 8 hits with 5 K's for the game. The Expos got 3 hits for SS Ricardo Duran. 2BChris Nichols and SS Ricardo Duran had back to back triples in the6th inning for Montreal. For Nichols it was his 4th and for Duran itwas his 1st.


Chicago Cubs SP Justin Chrzanowskiallowed 0 runs on 2 hits with 11 K's in a complete game 3-0 win overthe Astros. The 34 year old is now 7-2 with a 1.82 ERA in 16 starts.Last year, Chrzanowski was 9-3 with a 1.86 ERA in 20 starts for theCubs.


The Montreal Expos have traded SS TonyDelgado along with CF Roberto Salinas to the Seattle Mariners inexchange for LHP Jim Lea and 2B Miguel Cravalho.
