Text format problem

I'm running a Mac with OSX Sierra, and I'm unable to enter special characters in player/team names. For example, if I try to type in an é, I get an "É", and if I try to copy/paste one I get an Ã. This has been going on for quite some time, it's annoying, but such is life.

However, I upgraded to Mac OSX High Sierra today, and the problem has extended to an area that's never been problematic. As I tried to load the game, I got a series of messages saying:
Code:
"DATABASE::create_random_team_logo - could not save team logo! File name: city_nickname.png"
So, I made sure the logos were in the appropriate location - they were. I tried to import them manually, but got:

Code:
"Couldn't save the file! Probably the file is in use or write-protected?".
I made sure to test these steps with a team without a "special" character, and it worked out normally. I also attempted to change the team name in the logo source folder to reflect OOTP's idiosyncrasies (so instead of liberté I wrote libertÉ, libertÃ, liberte, libert←, libert%E9, all of which bore no fruits). Basically, it flat out refuses to give a team with a special character a logo, no matter what, and it's new to OSX High Sierra.

Could there be a workaround I've ignored?
