Italian GP: Free Practice and Qualifying Report
motorsport-live.com August 1st, 2016
The Italian fans came in bunches for the practice session and qualifying and the red flags were out for the
Scuderia Rossini and
Dieter Wexler. The news of the Friday was that the red cars did not bring a significant update to the race, but that was to be ignored, via
Niilo Saarinen.
"That does not mean we have given up on this year's Championship," he said. "Also, the race for second in the Constructors is important for the team so..."
The free practice was a disappointment for the Italian crowd as the cars with the pranching horse engines were behind the two
Steinmann cars with
Harry Chapman(1:10.937) and
Nina Holtz(1:11.187) in P1 and P2.
Chapman also was the first front runner to cross the line qualifying with a 1:08.797 with his teammate
Cheater Holtz .182 behind him in front of
Sharp,
Saarinen,
Lipponen and
Wexler. Agony in the grandstand.
That was aggrevated when the second flying lap started... and
Chapman improved to a 1:08.718,
Holtz followed suit with a 1:08.858 and the others failed to move up significantly... we are in for another
Steinmann show here at
Rossini's home race...
Team Radio of the Day:
"Spoiled the fun for the Italian fans huh?"
Zoe Sharp,
Panther Race Team, after she put her car on P3 in front of both
Rossini.

We are just .209 behind the second
Kitano and roughly .800 behind P12 in qualifying. That is serious improvement for
Vidal. Unfortunately, the race will be dry according to every weather shaman we can get our hands on, and the simple question is, what dry tyre strategy are we going to roll?
My reasoning is that if you stop here on this track, where it is like 320 kph on the pit strait, it costs you a massive amount of time. We'll try a 1 stopper with the hard compound.
