Transactions:
Transferred RF Giovanni Smith to the 60-day DL.
Placed SP David Gutiérrez on the 40-man roster.
Purchased the contract of SP David Gutiérrez from Triple A San Juan.
I was hoping that Gutierrez would get a start, but Patterson decided against it
Injuries:
OF Bo Keller, Herniated disc, 2-3 weeks, 11-day DL (.285-4-20)
OF Giovanni Smith, Partially torn laburm, 3 months, 60-day DL (.277-6-40)
Matt Douglas was activated and put right back into the starting lineup. I hope he can find his groove before the playoffs... Bo Keller meanwhile suffered a set-back and will be out around another week. I was hoping to have Keller back before the playoffs, but it is not looking good. I will keep him here a week then send him back down. I want to win the AAA playoffs... probably a stupid move in hindsight.
Other/Roster News:
none
GM Notes:
There is nothing worse in my opinion than losing to a crappy team and yet that is what it seems like we do time and time again when we play the Cape May Beacons. This series the team with a .435 winning percentage, who is last in their division, took 3 of 4. Those are the series we HAVE to win. There really is no excuse for playing that poorly.
Speaking of playing poorly, is it me or are we playing like garbage in September. I mean come on we went 20-9 (.690) in August and then hit September and forget how to win?? We are 5 and 7, we have almost lost as many games as we did in August. This isn't boding well for a playoff run... are the players getting tired? Should I bring up more AAA players?? I am at a loss, but we have to get our pitching back on track soon.
Noafumi Ohayashi is having a memorable season and soon he could be the record holder for more RBI's in a season. He is currently tied with Hank Davis who drove in 103 in 2035. He is also only third player in Chadds Ford history to hit 30 HR's, tied with Friis-Knutzman for 2nd with 31. I think the 39 that Davis hit in 2035 will be out of reach... another stat to watch is Julio Casanes and his 95 RBI's. If he can drive in 5 more this season it will be the first time in team history that we have two players with 100+ RBI's! Exciting time.
Matt Douglas was a welcome addition back into the lineup. He hit .300-0-2 (7-23) during his first 6-games back. The good sign is he didn't strike out. I need his bat to keep it up and help set the table. Davis and Douglas are my table setters they get on base, we should score some runs. I like this lineup more and more, and I was worried about them coming into the season.
Last season we pulled off 95 wins, this year we are 8 away. Can we win 8 in 15 games? Sad to say, but at one point I thought we were going to hit the 100 W mark. I really thought that August was a turning point and not a fluke month. We are talented there is no doubt about that, but this is probably our last season with this core... our last season with this much talent for a little bit. You can't always trade a semi-star for a semi-star who makes rookie minimum. You can try, but it doesn't always work that way.
This has been a fun season and I hope we can turn around this little bump we hit. I want us to win some more games, I want us to make a run for title. If we can do that I will feel so much better about my team in Chadds Ford. It took 6-years to make the playoffs, and during those six years I started to doubt myself... to the point I was ready to retire and shut down the dynasty, but now I am feeling better... and once I win here I will move on to one more team before retiring... as long as that "once" doesn't take too long.
