In the top of the first, Harrah got his 10th stolen base of the season. But he was also thrown out trying to score from second on a single by Nelson.
The Red Sox got the first run of the game in the bottom of the second as Petrocelli got the RBI on a groundout.

In the top of the fourth, Howard tied the game with an RBI single but, on the play, Burroughs was thrown out at home trying to score from second.
Mincher gave the Red Sox the lead back with an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth. This time it was Petrocelli thrown out at home trying to score from second on the play.
After six: Boston 2 Texas 1.
In the top of the seventh, Harris was thrown out at home trying to score from second on a single by Maddox.
Bobby Bolin took the mound to start the top of the eighth for the Red Sox. Nelson tied the game with a run-scoring single to pick up his 40th RBI of the season. It was the Rangers 10th hit of the game. Bolin then struck out Burroughs to get his 40th K of the season. Then, with the bases empty and two out, Howard picked up home run number 10 and RBI number 60 to give the Rangers the lead.
The bottom of the eighth saw a 51 minute rain delay. With the bases empty and two out, Horacio Pina replaced Gogolewski.
Roger Moret took the mound for the Red Sox in the top of the ninth. Nelson increased the Texas lead with an RBI single. Maddox then scored on a wild pitch. Then Pina got his first RBI of the season with his own run-scoring single. That brought on a pitching change as Ray Culp took the mound for the Red Sox to get the final out.
For the fourth time this season, the Rangers had won two out of three against the Red Sox.
Final score: Texas 6 Boston 2.
