Carew put the Twins on the board in the first with an RBI single. Brye added his own RBI single.

In the second, Blyleven hit his first homer of the season, a solo shot.

The Rangers loaded the bases with two out in the bottom of the second and then Hand came up with a 2-run single for his first RBI of the season.

In the third inning, Burroughs tied the game with an RBI groundout. Biittner then gave the Rangers the lead with an RBI single.

After three: Texas 4 Minnesota 3.

With a runner on first and two out in the top of the fifth, Jim Panther replaced Hand on the mound and got the final out of the frame.

After six: Texas 4 Minnesota 3.

In the eighth, the Twins loaded the bases with nobody out on three walks. Panther then walked Mitterwald to tie the game. Holt then gave the Twins the lead with an RBI single. Pinch hitter Tony Oliva added his own RBI single. Finally, Panther was pulled for Paul Lindblad and bases were still loaded and nobody was out. Carew then crushed a three run double as the Twins batted around the order in the 6 run inning.

Wayne Granger took the mound for the Twins in the bottom of the eighth.

In the top of the ninth, Nettles added a sac fly for the Twins. The Twins then loaded the bases with one out before Eric Soderholm ground into the inning ending double play.

Jim Strickland then took the mound in the ninth for the Twins and easily kept the Rangers from mounting any kind of comeback.

Final score: Minnesota 10 Texas 4.
