that, plus the left side of that screeen control a significant part of your league's statsistical environment.

These simply adjust results in an intuitive way... **don't try to change range of results by changing the League Totals values unless you do the whole set and it jives together, mathematically (* this would require an auto-calc or something similar, if you change the LTs). so, if oyu want 10% more HR, take that LTM=x... new value = 1.1x.

Bears: (meh, chicago bears... how's cutler doing )

not much is required.. but, if you don't the results those first 30 years or so will scale in a very similar way every single time... so it's not really a random thing. it's quite predictable.

auto-calc simply callibrates the current level of talent in the league to ~roughly hit the League Totals on that screen... (unless you adjust the LTM to be 10% higher like the example given above... if oyu do that, you must bump those AFTER auto-calcing to achieve what you want)

since the distribution of real vs fictional talent is a bit different, this keeps it from deviating extreme distances from the league baseline as given by the League Totals and LTMs that callibrates it.

maybe you want that? then, definitely don't auto-calc (although at least 1 time is a good idea) ** And, do it opening day for best resutls before any game as played.

basic rundown of Auto-calc in EVERY other situation...

if talent is low: it will make that low level of talent likely to hit the baseline -- So, if talent can only go up from there (normal range of deviation), then stats can only go up from there... in this instance when you click autocalc, you actually set that as the "Floor" for your league...

you can extrapolate the rest.. ie if average, you set it right about average,,, if high in talent, it's will drop as much as the first example had risen.

So, once past any transition (real players or era-to-era or seed players), clicking it once and ignoring it isn't going to have the same type of ramifcations... you still may want to make some small adjustments as you play and observe results, though.
Great post! I play the MLB Quickstart almost exclusively. Would you advocate doing an Auto-Calc every Opening Day? Once every 5 years? What is your take on frequency needed to keep the league in line with the baselines yet still evolving?
