Texas has owned the underachieving Athletics so far this season but the matchups suggest that should change.

The pitchers dominated the early going as Gogolewski did not allow a hit in the first three innings.

After three: Oakland 0 Texas 0.

Rudi broke up the no hitter with one out in the fourth. Hendrick then broke up the shutout with a two run homer, putting him at double digits in RBI for the season.

In the fifth inning, Campaneris added an RBI single and Tenace an RBI double.

Nelson made it 13 games in a row with a hit with a single in the sixth but he was thrown out trying to steal second.

After six: Oakland 4 Texas 0.

Gogolewski struck out Meoli to begin the seventh inning. Gogolewski now has 70 K for the year. Jim Shellenback finished the frame for the Rangers.

Pepitone got an RBI double in the eighth. Hendrick added an RBI single as did Meoli.

Casey Cox pitched the ninth for Texas.

In the bottom of the ninth, Biittner broke up the shutout with a two out RBI single.

Final score: Oakland 7 Texas 1.
