I've played a lot of simulations over the years. Up until this past week, I would have said that a single game by Gil Hodges, as I was simming a Brooklyn Dodger dynsty through the 1940s and 1950s, was my greatest moment. He had a single game where he came to bat five times with the bases loaded. The result? Two home runs and three doubles leading to 16 RBIs. Then, in the top of the ninth, he came to the plate for the sixth time in the game with the bases empty and two out. He hit a solo home run to give him a final line of 6 for 6 with 3 doubles, 3 home runs, and 17 RBIs. I've never had a player hit four home runs in a game.

I have had three no-hitters, though. One was by a turn-of-the-century pitcher named Frank Kitson. The other two were by Don Sutton in a 1970s replay, one in the NLCS.

But the greatest experience I've ever had playing a baseball simuation through hundreds of seasons came last week replaying the 1888 season in my Brooklyn Dynasty. Brooklyn was down by 15 games in August. They were down by 9 games in September. They rattled off a 10 gqame win streak in August, and then they finished the season witha 15 game win streak to take over first place and win the pennant. Then came the world series when my All Star shortstop Dave Drew hit back-to-back walk off hits to win two of the games. The series ended up going seven with my ace Charlie Buffington throwing a shut out to win game seven.

I blogged about it here:
