I called up a young .5 star 1B as a backup at the 40 man roster expansion in September and he is listed as the Captain of the team. There should be some other requirements other than personality traits to qualify for this position.

I would think in most cases they should be veteran player and/or have at least a few years on the team. I'd also argue that in most cases they would be a decent player and having a starting position on roster.
