Here's how I play the game.

Pro- I am playing a NFL historical replay beginning in 1960 (the 1st year of the AFL). I am currently in 1992. I find that the game is fairly close to real life but I don't want to repeat history exactly. It is more fun to me that way. I can only think of one or two seasons when the Super Bowl winner matched real life. But I like that it makes it fun for me. I don't coach any of the teams I just let the computer play the results out. Which is also the way I play OOTP. When you simulate games you have the option of how much you want to simulate. For instance, because I play every game in the season, I fast simulate up to the last eight minutes of the fourth quarter. And then I simulate each play for the rest of the game and overtime. The weirdest statistical happening was in 1984 when Dan Marino threw 79 touchdown passes. That was the dolphins perfect season as opposed to 1972 in real life. Of course you have the option of taking over any team and acting as head coach and calling plays offense or defense or both. It's up to you. But I like to play the commissioner . I like the ultimate power.

College – there are over 6500 teams and I've taken on the major undertaking of determining the all-time best team via a series of tournaments NCAA basketball style. The winners of all the tournaments will play a grand final tournament to determine the best team. Each tournament has at least 64 and no more than 128 teams, so with the one in done format a team has to play six or seven rounds to be a tournament champion. I Play out each tournament game like the pro with one difference. I fast simulate to the last eight minutes of the fourth quarter and if one team is leading by more than 20 points, I will fast simulate the rest of the game. If a team is leading by less than 20 points I will simulate each play of the last eight minutes and overtime just like I do in the pros. I do that because of the number of teams and time involved. Right now I am playing a tournament involving all 123 teams from the 1970 and 1971 season that are in the game. I am too lazy to seed the teams, so I let the computer do it randomly. Once in a great while you will get a match up like the 1970 Alabama team playing the 1971 Alabama team. I am OK with that. It would take way too much time to avoid something like that.

So that's the way I play the game.

I don't do this, but you have the flexibility to set up your own seasons matching up pro teams from different seasons. For example you could have a league that includes the 1972 Miami dolphins and the 1985 Chicago Bears so you could determine the all-time Best pro team that way or you could do a NCAA basketball type tournament and decide the all-time best pro team.

It's up to you. This game is definitely worth the money.
