Complete Challenger League Coverage Weeks 5 and 6
Panthers open slight lead
The Pailyn Panthers went 6-2 over the past two weeks to leap the Riders and take the spot atop the Challenger League standings. This included a 3-1 series win over Dust Valley. This was also our matchup of the week. The Panthers have now won 8 of their last 10 games, and are easily the hottest team in the league at the moment.
Edison on fire
Kyros Storm shortstop Weston Eidson has been one of the toughest out in the league so far this year. Hitting .385, Eidson has reached safely in 21 consecutive games, the longest hitting streak in the league. The Picon native is no stranger to hitting streaks. In his rookie year, he managed to hit in 19 consecutive games.
Pitcher of the Month
We are through the first month of the Challenger League schedule, and Harold Moore of the Promethea Pirates has been named pitcher of the month. Moore is 4-0 with a 0.69 ERA. He’s racked up a whopping 49 strikeouts.
Hitter of the Month
In a tight race, Danny Gilmore has been named hitter of the month. The Legion 2nd baseman hit /342 with 7 homers and 18 RBI in the first month of the season.
Attrill making early bid for May hitter of the month
Living up the hype of his first overall draft selection, Attrill hasn’t fallen off at all since his rookie of the year campaign two years ago. He had a very respectable April, hitting .333 with 5 homers. Just 7 games into May, however, he’s already smashed 6 home runs, driven in 9, and his hitting .412. His offensive efforts have helped pull the Galaxy up into the wildcard hunt. They’re currently one game off the pace to qualify for the promotion playoffs.
Key matchup of the week
The Opadea Galaxy try to stake their claim as one of the most formidable teams in the league as they take on 2nd place Dust Valley.
