Spring Training Games begin.
P Alan Gross has been cleared to pitch, so we have 7 candidates for the rotation plus Larry Duke (35 L) and Chris Procell (33 L), two old-timers who will not be in the rotation unless there are injuries. Or I should say, UNTIL there are injuries....
Terry Cole (32 L), Alan Gross (28 L) and Tony Ricketts (28 R) will be in the rotation if healthy, at least in April. We will see if Cole and Gross have anything left after their injuries, but crappy Spring Training results won't affect their opportunity to pitch in April. That leaves 4 pitchers fighting over the last two spots in the rotation: J.T. Burdick (25 L), Angel Rodriguez (25 R), Darrell Massingham (27 R) and Bill Tull (24 R). Tull is the long-shot and Massingham, the favorite.
The rest of the team, including the Bullpen, looks set going into Spring Training. The games will just be to shake off the rust and get in shape and also to get hurt and make us scramble to fill the holes....
I will not report on the games in Spring training, but I will mention that we won our first outing, 13 to 1, over the Pirates and we only gave up 3 hits! We did walk 7, though. No pitcher went more than 2 innings and every one looked in shape! P Terry Cole gave up 1 hit and no walks and struck out 1 in his 2 innings and says his arm feels pretty good afterwards! 3B Ron Peddicord hit a home run. 443 ft!
