Winter Meetings Begin
3B Larry Menard (35 R) signed with the Seattle Mariners for 2-yrs/$29.2 mil. ($14.6 mil. per season). He hit .276-29-105 (.772 OPS) for the Chicago Cubs this past season.
C Stan Brown (30 R) signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers for 6-yrs./$146.4 mil. ($24.4 mil. per season). The final year is a team option. He hit .265-24-75 (.880 OPS) for the San Francisco Giants this past season.
The New York Yankees made it 171 SV from 2002 in their 2003 Bullpen by signing P Tony Ahern (33 R) for 3-yrs./$30.6 mil. ($10.2 mil. per season). The third year is a team option. He was 6-5 with a 2.78 ERA and 37 SV for Seattle this past season.
The Yankee pitching staff is now set to earn $141.5 mil. in 2003.
It is looking like the Portland Beavers will not make any deals here at the Meetings. P Terry Cole is proving a popular piece of trade bait, but none of the 2B or LF's that are not making a ton of money are exciting me or the other GM's are wanting way too much.
