Pete Broberg's dominating performance was a big story in the baseball world but there was also huge news out of San Francisco. SP Juan Marichal was done for the year with a torn rotator cuff.
A full slate of action plus took place on the 9th. Besides Kansas City at Texas, the AL had a double header in Boston between the Tigers and Red Sox, plus Baltimore at New York, Cleveland at Milwaukee, Oakland at Chicago and California at Minnesota.
The NL had two double headers with Houston at Atlanta as well as San Diego at San Francisco. Other NL games were Chicago at Montreal, New York at Pittsburgh, Philadelphia at St Louis and Cincinnati at Los Angeles.

Once again viewing the matchups, it was a great start for the Rangers to be guaranteed at least a split.
The Rangers failed to record a hit in the first three innings but the Royals could get no runs and the game was scoreless after three.
The same was true after six innings as the Rangers were still looking for their first hit of the game.
The seventh inning came and went and Texas still did not have a hit. But the Royals still did not have a run.
The Rangers went to the bullpen in the top of the eighth and the Royals took advantage of Horacio Pena, scoring 4 runs, three of then charged to Pina.
Meanwhile, with two out in the bottom of the eighth, Maddox singled to left to break up the no-hitter.
The Rangers got one more hit in the bottom of the ninth but that was all.
Final score: Kansas City 4 Texas 0
