It's a personal choice. There is no optimal setting. Simply stated a fine scale 1-100 20-80 allows you to see small differences between players. These differences may or may not matter. Coarse scales 1-5 2-8 hide those differences. The 1-10 scale is closer to coarse than fine.

New players should probably use fine scales initially. Coarse scales make you more reliant on player stats over several seasons.
